"Nuthin' to see here, people...I'm just one of the chickens. The turkeys are over there."

As Thanksgiving day approached, Thom donned an elaborately fashioned headpiece as a disguise and tried to assume a low profile... :-)

Happy Turkey Day to all of my Flickr friends who are celebrating today, and a happy Thursday to all!

I was on my way up to Chivay in the Peruvian highland region heading toward the world's deepest canyon, the Colca Canyon. I stopped at a snack shop by the roadside when I spotted some Red-Backed Hawks sitting on the roof. I took out my camera to take a photo of the hawks when I saw a local guy throwing chicken parts up on the roof to feed them. I was fortunate to capture the birds as they caught their meal in flight.

The Variable Hawk (Red-backed Hawk) is well-named, exhibiting perhaps the greatest variety of plumage patterns of any species of hawk. It occurs throughout the Andes and in the temperate regions of southern South America.

These Hawks occupy open habitats at all elevations, where they prey on mammals and other small animals spotted from the air. They build large stick nests on any elevated structure available, and sometimes breed cooperatively.

Saw this today in Newport and my brain nearly imploded. I had to be really quick to get out my iPhone and snap away. I've cropped it a bit and not processed at all, couldn't bring myself to do that to such a funny image.

I just sent the pattern to your lady!

Chicken Head

This image was created using both broadband and narrowband filters—seven filters in total. When I first created the RGB image, it looked flat. I thought I would include the narrowband data that I captured and combine the two. To my eye, I like the true colour palette, but it really lacked the depth that was in the Hubble Palette. Revealing the blue near the centre was one of my goals. This is my attempt at combining seven filters into an image.

Gum 39, also known as RCW 32, is an emission nebula located in the constellation of Centaurus in the southern sky. It is the larger object to the left. Gum 40, also known as IC 2872, is another emission nebula, the smaller object in the lower right part of the frame. They are situated in the southern part of the constellation, near the border with the constellation Crux. They are named after the Australian astronomer Colin S. Gum, who catalogued them in his Gum Catalogue of HII Regions in 1955.

Gum 39 is a region of ionised hydrogen gas illuminated by nearby hot, massive stars. These stars emit intense ultraviolet radiation, which ionises the surrounding hydrogen gas and causes it to glow. The nebula is a diffuse, glowing cloud of gas displaying intricate structures and filaments.

Within Gum 39, there may be star formation regions where dense pockets of gas and dust are collapsing under gravity to form new stars. These regions are often characterised by young, massive stars surrounded by dusty cocoons.

Back Story .................

.

Made it out to the Palace early morning, all went well.

So here we go again, "same same but different".

When I pulled in there was maybe 30-40 men cleaning around the temple grounds.

You could hear Thai music coming from big speakers and the volume was quite loud.

Sound was traveling through out the entire jungle.

Soon as the Browns heard me they started singing their own version of Thai music.

All three pink trays were still in place as was the water bowels but one observation table was missing !

Once the Browns were fed I headed over to feed Leroy and Crew. On the way I noticed many of the worker men stopped and gave me a huge Thai Smile.

Many said hello in Thai and I replied back in Thai too.

More Thai worker men were cleaning around where Leroy is fed and the same same hello was given by many.

Around the cave where many Buddha statues reside there was maybe 200-300 red and blue plastic chairs set up.

A very large canvas awning was covering much of it along with a bunch of "wooden tables" holding gifts for Buddha.

Most of the monkeys were way up in the jungle trying to avoid the loud music !

So it looks as if today is a Big Buddha Day and I wasn't aware of it. but I am now.

Somebody must have told the workers who and what the white man with the dogs following him is all about.

Every where I went people would stop and smile, some would point at the dogs an say something in Thai, this is way cool.

At one point I was way off in the bush trying to shoot a monkey when a man pulled in, got out of his truck and in Thai questioned me as if what are you all about?

As if on cue all 3 of the Browns came running up to me, Mama leaning on my leg as was Mr B. Baby Betty wanting to lick my toes.

I smiled and the man seemed to know instantly who I was.He smiled while pointing at the dogs then back to me.

I understood the words for dogs and white man being said in a pleasant way.

All in all things went quit nicely..........;-)

.

Ride home was slightly different !

Sky was filling up fast with dark wet clouds, I picked up speed knowing what was about to happen.

About one klick from home big heavy rain drops started going "Splat" "Splat" on my helmet and face.....Not Good !!! This was going to hurt !!!

.

I twisted the wick on the little 125cc motorbike trying to out run the storm. If the short cut was clear I might make it by the seat of my pants..

.

Leaned forward and went for it, Buddha must have been watching over me cuz seconds after arriving home the sky opened up.

Monsoon down pour with lightning striking all around the place.

That my friends was way to close but I made it safe and dry.

Storm was long gone after about an hour of house shaking, ear splitting thunder and lightning.

Now the 150% humidity starts, no big deal, we needed the rain.

Thanks for reading this report to the end.
