I came across these Shelduck Chicks on the busy promenade at Rossall, there was no sign of the parent birds, although they were probably around in the sand dunes keeping a low profile from all the people. They toddled off along a path and was there that I saw the opportunity to get them lined up with a nice backdrop.
Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated 👍
This was an interesting encounter. This little wood duck chick seemed to be on its own, with no other wood ducks around. But there was a family of common gallinules nearby and one of the parents kept trying to scoot the wood duck over into their family, almost as if they were adopting it.
Quite a well-grown chick, there were also some very tiny ones, either a long breeding season or a relay after failure
Our three new chicks at about 4 weeks of age:
Snow Drop, Inky and Peanut. Named by my Grandson.
Enjoying the sun on their roost.
They already love scratching around the garden and exploring looking for bugs etc. Lets hope we get some eggs when they are older.
The smallest flamingo chick I've seen so far. It looks like he has just learned to walk. ❤️

As this Black Skimmer got up it exposed a newly hatched chick. If you enlarge the pic, look to the left of the two eggs next to the adult. You can make out a wet little chick. Manasquan Inlet, NJ.
I was super excited to see and photograph burrowing owls with chicks. My husband and I found a few different nests and were able to witness some wonderful behavior. Here the chicks posed nicely in front of a pond.

The circle of life begins again! The Cullinan Limpkins have finally succeeded in bringing a new family into the world. Proud Mom and Dad were foraging, about 100 ft away from me this morning, with their six adorable chicks. Mom here with one baby crying for food.
This is our first Great Blue Heron chick. Picture was taken on January 11th. He's getting big!
Thanks so much for the visit!
These chicks are so tiny that it is hard to see and photograph them at times. This one came closer to me :-)! Piping plovers are a threatened and endangered species!
Heron chicks taken a couple of weeks after the first image I posted. It won't be long before they're ready to fledge.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.
Initially, there were eight chicks by a pair of the Egyptian geese at the city park of Barreiro. Unfortunately, one of them was not seen since the last few days. They are some of the many birds in this park over the last couple of years. The parents are very protective of the chicks but allow nice human beings to go near the chicks, animal instincts. It is nice to see that the animals are encouraged to thrive thats has also enriched many of the residents life within the vicinity of the park, especially the current worldwide situation.

Piping Plover chick
They are an endangered species
This was my fist time seeing baby Piping Plovers! They're so much fun to watch. Hyper like the adults, only stopping a split second to stoop for sand food and occasionally run to the adult for what looked like a quick snuggle. (I'm not sure if the adult was male, female, mother, father, friend, relative...)
They especially blend in with their surroundings when you are looking down at them and they're so tiny!
The chicks huddle against each other, because they are not very reassured !
The situation is totally new !!!
Reaching back to June of last year for this photo, I was fortunate to find a Wood duck hen and her chicks working the Lilly pads at Lake Artemesia. The chicks were so small they had some difficulty getting over the Lilly pads. They had to swim up to them and then climb on them to then walk across. Here two chicks were very close together and near some of the beautiful flowers. For me this was photographic heaven!
Taken 6 June 2016 at Lake Artemesia in College Park, Maryland.
The Burrowing owlets are starting to wander and are so entertaining to watch. I saw one jumping around until it accidently jumped toward the burrow and disappeared into the hole. No harm done and quite funny. Here’s one jumping against a clean background, which was hard to get. Logically, the closer the nest is located to where people walk, the more used to people they become. On the other hand, when located more remotely, those owls are intolerant of human company and will fly off the nest, returning when humans leave. When I see that, I don’t get near that nest, not wanted to do anything that might interfere with eggs in the burrow. Fortunately, several nests are very close to people and those owls are quite comfortable with a crowd of people watching their antics.
