Chester is a city in northwest England, founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st century A.D. It's known for its extensive Roman walls made of local red sandstone. In the old city, the Rows is a shopping district distinguished by 2-level covered arcades and Tudor-style half-timber buildings. A Roman amphitheatre, with ongoing excavations, lies just outside the old city's walls.

A beautiful crisp morning on The Dee in Boughton, Chester. The sun had burnt most of the mist off whilst I was further upstream near The Groves.

I did get the drone as low as I dare to catch some of the mist remaining and I imagine that's the view the rowers get to see whilst sculling back and forth.

Chester Sailing and Canoe Club is on the left and the large area of open meadows that hugs the bend in The Dee at Boughton can be seen on the right.

There are a plethora of must-have locations along the former Rutland Railway between Bellows Falls and Rutland. Among them is the brick depot in Chester, where Vermont Railway GP38-2 201 passes in the early afternoon sunshine with freight 263. The red duo has conquered the grades through the Green Mountains and will follow the Williams River to the Connecticut River at appropriately-named Riverside.

The last one in this series. This is an old lock which has become a waterfall surrounded by foliage, making a natural looking scene. The warehouse workshop is a resource where youngsters can learn various traditional skills.

A canal walk is always easy going, due to the flat and level towpaths...and on a Summers day, it is a delight.

Chester is my hometown City, and on this morning, on my walk, I have never seen it look so beautiful :)

A wide-angle photo of Chester Township School No. 9 in Poweshiek County near Grinnell, Iowa. The vestibule on the right is an add-on, the original entrance was on the left. I'm not sure when this old schoolhouse was built.

DRRV KV1 heads west on the Chester Branch at Kenvil. This job was supposed to use the GP38 parked at the right, but mechanical issues forced them to use RP1's engines to switch out the branch. The ex-NS heritage of 5303 is pretty obvious here.

This is the roof of Chester cathedral thanks for looking paul

In 1698 an exchange was built to accommodate the city's administrators. This building burnt down in 1862. A competition was held to build a new town hall and this was won by William Henry Lynn of Belfast. The building cost £40,000 (equivalent to £3,720,000 in 2019).
