The 2022 EX-CHANGE celebrates 2021-22 projects from first year through PhD programs through an exhibition, designed by means+methods, led by Aviva Rubin (B.Arch ‘07) and Carolynn Karp, and catalog designed by Group Project, Jimmy Luu and Ryan Menefee (DC ’08, HNZ ’09). EX-CHANGE addresses three imminent challenges facing society: climate change, artificial intelligence, and social justice. These themes organize the work, along with the experiments inspired by a spirit of formal and technological innovation at the school.
The SoA gratefully acknowledges our 2022 sponsors who have helped make this project possible: PERKINS EASTMAN, Strada | Design With People In Mind®, PWWG Architects, Sota Construction Services, Inc., Desmone Architects, GBBN, and Akhil Badjatia. Learn more at soa.cmu.edu/exchange.
As humans, we go through constant changes - from exterior to interior - that affect us intrinsically and extrinsically. Sometimes, we can't find the time to stop and make ourselves aware of our current position in life. At times, things just happen so fast that the change in itself doesn't take effect until everything has gone berserk.
There is a land of emotional turmoil and I am the queen. There are tsunamis and tornadoes that rush alongside my adrenaline and demolish the walls I have so intricately built over the years. I want to be willing to let the emotional waves take over me and possibly drown me in a different kind of emotion that has remained foreign to me for so long. However, the consequences scare me and I'm back to square one, resisting to feel yet wanting to feel. I am a paradox.

Noticing the silver in my hair I anticipate that this part of my autobiography will be titled "2008 - The Year I Got Old".
There is very little remaining in my life that was in it when I did my 365. I keep thinking that means I should do another one.
I hesitate. I think that I'm afraid of what I might see.

The ultimate “threat multiplier,” climate change is increasing the challenges facing the U.S. development, diplomatic, and security communities. “A New Climate for Peace: Taking Action on Climate and Fragility Risks,” an independent report commissioned by the members of the G7, identifies seven compound climate-fragility risks that pose serious threats to stability in the decades ahead. Based on a thorough assessment of existing policies, the report recommends that the G7 take concrete actions to tackle climate-fragility risks and increase the resilience of states and societies.
Join leaders from the development, diplomatic, and security communities and the report’s coauthors for the U.S. launch of a “New Climate for Peace.” The high-level interagency panel will explore how these climate-fragility challenges are changing the way the United States and its partners work, and will also identify opportunities for joint action to address them.
The report can be accessed on the New Climate for Peace website.
