6-7-2011 'CHANGE'

Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone.

We visited Mammoth Hot Springs 30 years ago. It is quite amazing to see how much they had changed. Such a special and unique place.

this one has a deep personal meaning.

"I still don't know what I was waiting for

And my time was running wild

A million dead-end streets

Every time I thought I'd got it made

It seemed the taste was not so sweet

So I turned myself to face me

But I've never caught a glimpse

Of how the others must see the faker

I'm much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

(Turn and face the strange)

Ch-ch-Changes

Don't want to be a richer man

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes"

A little bit of everything in this consist pulling a train past Tower B12. The new connection from the WC to the CP was under construction and the southern most track has been removed.

Taken from Tower B12.

Just a little over a year into the Union Pacific era, the effects of the takeover were becoming apparent as the former North Western car shop at Clinton has been closed, the CNW business car fleet parked, and changes were happening everywhere.

A UP SW10 was sidelined along with a CNW GP7. Within a few years the entire car shop was torn down and today this location is unidentifiable.

Over 20 years later I still regret not making the effort to walk back to my vehicle to get the clippers and deal with those bushes.

This photo shows the climate changes taking place: I shoot this little grebe at the lakes of Colbricon, in the heart of the Dolomites, in August, at an altitude of 1927 meters, where it had nested (the couple had 2 chicks). Usually little grebes do not nest above 500 meters, and in any case in 50 years that I frequent the area I had never seen one. In the same period I saw a couple of grey herons at the Calaita lake, at over 1600 meters above sea level: even in this case I had never seen herons in the area.

Apparently the higher temperatures, especially at night, and the frequent thermal inversion are changing the habits of the fauna...

These photos, all shot within a few seconds of each other during Horizons, show why there are no two identical photos of our planet from orbit. Mother Earth changes her face constantly... / Diese Fotos wurden innerhalb weniger Sekunden während Horizons aufgenommen, und zeigen, warum es keine zwei identischen Bilder unseres Planeten aus dem Orbit gibt. Mutter Erde ändert ihr Gesicht permanent...

Change of weather comes thru at the end of the day

IMGP0061

This series of photos is from our visit in 2018. The changing of the guard is at 11am every Monday, unfortunately it did not happen during our visit in 2019 due to the civil unrest at that time, and now the country is in lockdown due to Covid-19, making this years visit off.

"Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,

Visions of shadows that shine.

Til one day I returned and found they were the

Victims of the vines of changes."

- - Lyrics by Phil Ochs

We'll be getting a new Prime Minster.

Goldfinch partway through its color change to yellow.

You see I know change

I see change

I embody change

All we do is change

Yeah, I know change

We are born to change

We sometimes regard it as a metaphor

That reflects the way things ought to be

In fact change takes time

It exceeds all expectations

It requires both now and then

See although the players change

The song remains the same

And the truth is

You gotta have the balls to change

Tampere - Art Museum - Hyper 2024

Evan Penny, Panagiot

Tampere Art Museum brings to the city the most interesting international artists in hyper-realistic sculpture from fifty years. HYPER takes the viewer directly to the skin, close to humanity. The works explore the relationship between life and death, reality and fantasy, human and machine, as well as various deformations of the human body. In hyperrealistic pieces, narrative and surprising elements merge with the precise depiction of reality. The sculptures in HYPER are technically skilful, depicting the human body as it is, down to the smallest detail, such as a pore, a wrinkle, facial hair and droplets of sweat. The subjects are everyday situations, ordinary people and the diversity of human existence. This makes the viewing experience strikingly real and immersive.

I want it to be real.

I was up, showered, and beautified —at least as well as I can be— well before sunrise yesterday, excited to go catch it. Oh, and I was dressed, too… don’t want to get so excited that I forget the important things. At my age, I do try to make sense of madness. Not one for tattoos, I have considered (as age related issues may progress) having my feet tattooed with TGIF, Toes Go In First, for just such reasons. After all, socks are important, too. They keep your ankles warm.

As the ladies were still checking their eyelids for holes, I made my way to the beach alone just behind our rental house here in Nags Head. Look what they missed… ha! Most others here at the beach did, too, as I had this all to myself. Nobody but me and the trail of pelicans riding the air pushed off the far wave… they apparently thought this was worth getting out of bed, too. The camera is a great motivator. And while Earth and Sun have been through this dance seemingly forever, it never gets old. This is as good a reset for peace, joy, and wellbeing as I can muster at the moment. “Changes in latitudes...” In such a place as this, I believe that’s about right.

“These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes

Nothing remains quite the same

Through all of the islands and all of the highlands

If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane”

Jimmy Buffett

Today’s sunrise was epic, too… but that’s a story for another time.

Labourers working on a resort construction project,

take a break and head towards their base.. situated on the neighboring island,

where food and lodging is arranged.

Recently, the Labour Ministry reluctantly announced the figures of 'legal' immigrant workers in Maldives at around 75k. Not big.. they must have emphasized, when considering the amount of projects currently underway.

But it is very big, when compared to the local population, currently at around 350k.

That is roughly 1:4 ratio of foreigner to every Maldivian citizen. Young and old included.

In some local village Islands which are in close proximity to construction sites, the figure escalate to alarming levels, which also lead to much tension between groups and hence lead to many unwanted social problems.

There are approximately, 30 newly leased resorts, 11 airports and over 60 harbour dredging projects.. in addition to the numerous building construction projects underway (or about to begin) in the Capital City and in the islands.

If this is not big, then big is certainly on the way shortly.

The Government is taking steps to develop three mega cities in the following zones.. Gulhi Falhu, Bodu Mohoraa and Ihavandhippolhu.

Just like autumn leaves this is ripening sorghum changing colour , when it is fully ripe it goes a rusty brown colour . This is a seven shot pano .

Instead of illustrating the Aperture versus Lightroom development issue I had with this image in two separate uploads, I have combined the two in one with a split wedge showing the Lightroom version developed from X-T2 RAF file. The sky highlights are where they should be, the shadows have changed a bit and this version is sharper with more detail in the trees and green along the other shore.

The surrounding image shows the Aperture enhanced version from out-of-camera JPG. I can't work with the RAF files in Aperture, since Apple still has no Raw support for this camera and for some reason DNGs don't work either. So the comparison isn't totally fair as one cannot compare JPGs to RAWs, but I was so fascinated by the X-T2 JPG output and how much I could manipulate them in Aperture — until I ran into this problem.

Definitively didn't watch for cloud burn-out when I took this image. And yes, I do watch my histogram carefully, but not here. Plus my EV correction was in the wrong direction. I tried to get those cloud details out of the RAW file by reprocessing in camera, and also with Iridient Developer, but both methods failed to get the sky proper, until I transferred it to Lightroom where the 'White' slider came to the rescue. Lightroom does a great job with the dynamic range of the Fujifilm RAFs and also with sharpening and preserving detail.

I love Aperture for what it offers in file management and I have FlickrExport, which makes uploading a breeze. If Lightroom had a decent uploader I would switch, but for now my workflow will be back and forth between the two apps, which is complicating things. I still think Apple made a huge mistake abandoning Aperture.

Some things are very unfortunate to happen.

In the past couple months I have grown an increasing love for film photography, you can bet that’s what this account is going to turn into. Taken on the streets of Chicago on my Canon AL-1, this was one of those grab and go shots I snagged while walking to Ogilvie so i’m not too sure where this was. Sure was a neat sign, not sure how the beer tastes though.

A page from the official program of the Second Atlanta Pop Festival,1970. This program was subject to change and it did. Everyone started late and many played at a different time from what was shown here. The music went until the early hours of each morning. I was a big fan of Jethro Tull but he was a no show. The Allman Brothers did start and end the show but I did not get any pictures of them - they were no so famous in my neck of the woods at that time. Jimi Hendrix did play on the fourth of July with a big fireworks show.

This is a contemporary photo of the original tabloid size program printed on newsprint. The 4 photos of the program in this set reflect the complete program except for some advertisements that I did not photograph.

My life is changing in lots of ways at the moment.

firstly I'm getting married this summer - I'm very excited!!

There were a number of big changes after the SOO bought the MILW and Stevens Point seen a loss of most through traffic as that was shifted to the former MILW Chicago-Twin Cities main. For awhile though the trains between the Twin Ports and Chicago continued to operate through Stevens Point. This set of power east of the roundhouse is no doubt going to be heading for the Twin Ports before long. SOO 770, CN 5215 and CNW 6580 soak up some hazy late May sun in 1986.

We have a lot of leaves already coming down; we've been really dry here . . . Dad is still in rehab for his broken/repaired hip; Mom is not doing very well without him on a daily basis, though she is never left alone. SO many changes . . .

The bosses shut the office early today as they're trying to avoid a visit by the three spirits of Christmas so I stopped off on the way home to shoot some of London's landmarks with my trusy old GF2. Here's a view of St Paul's Cathedral from the One New Change shopping/office building.

NS D12s light power rolls past Osman. The southern half of the siding here has seen little change over these past few months, which is quite the relief given what's happened at Lodge lately. Osman does certainly feel better in these later spring weeks, far less dreary than when the greenery had yet to return. I hope things stay the way they are here - there's certainly less to change, but that does mean if something does change... well, it won't be hard to see it.
