It was my birthday last week - no you don't need to know how old I am, let's just agree that I'm old enough to know better. I was gifted some glorious things from my beloved friends and one cheeky sister in SL. Zaara Kohime gifted me the set of her Surya and Chandra earrings, now at C88. These are a continuation of her Shairi collection.
They come with a chain that goes up to a bun and you can see that here on Zaara's stream however I have what Aussies call a big boofhead, and for that to fit me I would have had to resize them to the point where they'd look like hubcaps.

Chandra was born last summer in an Ayurvedic clinic's goshala in Karnataka, India. A very shy and nervy little one.
Wednesday was bright for a change, but cold & windy. Storm Chandra had not long swept over Ireland, the waves were still battering Tramore beach. The yellow & red roofed building is the lifeguard station (unmanned in winter). The waves were crashing over the top of it. Uploading for Saturday Self-Challenge theme "Weather with you" HSSC!
I take part in regular beach clean up sessions here, doing my bit for the environment. The people in blue tabards are those of us clearing up the rubbish: fishing nets, nylon rope, bits of plastic, textiles, medical waste & various other items discarded or washed in by the tide. One of the cafes on the promenade is kind enough to provide us with a free hot drink after our exertions.
05/100 : My 100x photos this year will be taken in & around Tramore, a seaside town on the South East coast of Ireland.

Chandra Taal or the lake of the moon is a gem in Spiti valley, Himachal Pradesh, India. One has to trek 2.5 Km at 14700feet height to see this gem.

chandra：梵語「月亮、光亮的、燦爛的」，源自動詞chand「照耀」。Chandra為印度教中的月神，亦是常見人名。本種名由英國昆蟲學家Frederic Moore（1830-1907）於1858年命名，模式標本採集自Darjeeling。S. chandra雌蝶係擬態Euploea紫斑蝶屬。
androdamas：拉丁語「銀輝色的白鐵礦、立方形銀色寶石」。文獻開頭便說明：「取名androdamas，係指男性專用的銀灰色Marcasite寶石」末尾更以興奮語氣提及：「臺灣新蝶種，恭喜傑出的採集者像在汪洋中發現至寶，此在動物地理學上具重大意義，因為本蝶至今尚未發現於泰國北部，中國數量稀少，越南北部可能是繼臺灣之後出現的區域。」本亞種模式標本雄雌蝶各一隻於1908年6月2至14日採集自Kosempo（今高雄市甲仙區）。

Chandra's image of the elliptical galaxy NGC 4697 reveals diffuse hot gas dotted with many point-like sources. As in the elliptical galaxies, NGC 4649 and NGC 1553, the point-like sources are due to black holes and neutron stars in binary star systems. Material pulled off a normal star is heated and emits X-radiation as it falls toward its black hole or neutron star companion.
Black holes and neutron stars are the end state of the brightest and most massive stars. Chandra's detection of numerous neutron stars and black holes in this and other elliptical galaxies shows that these galaxies once contained many very bright, massive stars, in marked contrast to the present population of low-mass faint stars that now dominate elliptical galaxies.
An unusually large number of the binary star X-ray sources in NGC 4697 are in "globular star clusters," round balls of stars in the galaxy that contain about one million stars in a volume where typically only one would be found. This suggests that the extraordinarily dense environment of globular clusters may be a good place for black holes or neutron stars to capture a companion star.
The origin of the hot gas cloud enveloping the galaxy is not known. One possibility is that the gas lost by evaporation from normal stars- so-called stellar winds - is heated by these winds and by supernova explosions.

Chandra Taal or Lake of the Moon is a lake in the Spiti part of Lahaul & Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh near the high altitude Kunzam Pass.It is situated at an altitude of 14100 feet above sea level.It gets its name from its crescent shape.It is situated on Samudra Tapu Plateau overlooking the Chandra River.There is no visible source of the lake but there is an outlet and the source is probably underground.
I could have probably got better shots of the lake if I had gone down to its shore.However we had reached the lake after a tiring journey of about 6 hours over very bad roads and we had to walk for about half a kilometer from where we had parked our vehicle to reach this spot.It might not sound much but try walking uphill at an altitude of 14000 feet and you will understand why i satisfied myself with these shots instead of going down to the lake.:-)

A young pulsar is blazing through the Milky Way at a speed of over a million miles per hour. This stellar speedster, witnessed by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, is one of the fastest objects of its kind ever seen. This result teaches astronomers more about how some of the bigger stars end their lives.
Pulsars are rapidly spinning neutron stars that are formed when some massive stars run out of fuel, collapse, and explode. This pulsar is racing through the remains of the supernova explosion that created it, called G292.0+1.8, located about 20,000 light-years from Earth.
To make this discovery, the researchers compared Chandra images of G292.0+1.8 taken in 2006 and 2016. From the change in position of the pulsar over the 10-year span, they calculated it is moving at least 1.4 million miles per hour from the center of the supernova remnant to the lower left. This speed is about 30% higher than a previous estimate of the pulsar’s speed that was based on an indirect method, by measuring how far the pulsar is from the center of the explosion.
The newly determined speed of the pulsar indicates that G292.0+1.8 and its pulsar may be significantly younger than astronomers previously thought. Xi and his team estimate that G292.0+1.8 would have exploded about 2,000 years ago as seen from Earth, rather than 3,000 years ago as previously calculated. Several civilizations around the globe were recording supernova explosions at that time, opening up the possibility that G292.0+1.8 was directly observed.

This 2005 image, made by combining 150 hours of archived Chandra data, shows the remnant of a supernova explosion. The central bright cloud of high-energy electrons is surrounded by a distinctive shell of hot gas.
The shell is due to a shock wave generated as the material ejected by the supernova plows into interstellar matter. The shock wave heats gas to millions of degrees, producing X-rays in the process.
Although many supernovas leave behind bright shells, others do not. This supernova remnant, identified as G21.5-0.9 by radio astronomers 30 years ago, was considered to be one that had no shell until it was revealed by Chandra.

This is the deepest X-ray image ever obtained, made with over 7 million seconds of observing time with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. These data give astronomers the best look yet at the growth of black holes over billions of years beginning soon after the Big Bang, as described in our latest press release.
The image is from the Chandra Deep Field-South, or CDF-S. The full CDF-S field covers an approximately circular region on the sky with an area about two-thirds that of the full Moon. However, the outer regions of the image, where the sensitivity to X-ray emission is lower, are not shown here. The colors in this image represent different levels of X-ray energy detected by Chandra. Here the lowest-energy X-rays are red, the medium band is green, and the highest-energy X-rays observed by Chandra are blue.

This X-ray image from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory shows activity from the central black hole in galaxy 3C305. Unexpectedly, Chandra's X-ray data does not appear to align with radio emission detected by the Very Large Array, but does overlap with the optical emission. Using this information, astronomers believe the X-ray emission is caused either by jets or radiation surrounding the black hole. One of these mechanisms is infusing the interstellar gas with enough energy to cause it to glow in X-ray light.

Two streams namely Chandra and Bhaga rise on the opposite sides of the Baralacha pass at an elevation of 4,891 metres and meet at Tandi at an elevation of 2,286 metres to form the river Chenab. The Chenab rises from the South-East and Bhaga from the North-West of the Baralacha pass. It enters Pangi valley of Chamba district near Bhujind and leaves the district at Sansari Nala to enter Podar valley of Kashmir. It flows in Himachal for 122 km. With its total length of 1,200 km., it has a catchment area of 61,000 sq. km., out of which 7,500 sq. km. lie in Himachal Pradesh. It is the largest river of Himachal Pradesh in terms of volume of waters. The Chenab valley is a structual trough formed by the great Himalayan and Pir Panjal ranges.
