The high altitude valley with magnificent peaks and Chandra river accompanying....taken near Batal, HImachal Pradesh, India
Chandra Tal or Lake of the Moon is situated at an altitude of around 14000 feet in Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.The name comes from the crescent shape of the lake .It is very close to the high altitude Kunzum pass connecting the Lahaul & Spiti valleys.The colours here are natural .The man standing looking down at the lake might give you an idea of the grand scale of the landscape.We had to walk for about 200m- 300m or so to reach this spot from where we had parked our vehicle .I felt so exhausted by then that I did not have the energy to walk down to the shores of the lake.That is high altitude for you.:-)

It was my birthday last week - no you don't need to know how old I am, let's just agree that I'm old enough to know better. I was gifted some glorious things from my beloved friends and one cheeky sister in SL. Zaara Kohime gifted me the set of her Surya and Chandra earrings, now at C88. These are a continuation of her Shairi collection.
They come with a chain that goes up to a bun and you can see that here on Zaara's stream however I have what Aussies call a big boofhead, and for that to fit me I would have had to resize them to the point where they'd look like hubcaps.

Etymology：
chandra：梵語「月亮、光亮的、燦爛的」，源自動詞chand「照耀」。Chandra為印度教中的月神，亦是常見人名。本種名由英國昆蟲學家Frederic Moore（1830-1907）於1858年命名，模式標本採集自Darjeeling。S. chandra雌蝶係擬態Euploea紫斑蝶屬。
androdamas：拉丁語「銀輝色的白鐵礦、立方形銀色寶石」。文獻開頭便說明：「取名androdamas，係指男性專用的銀灰色Marcasite寶石」末尾更以興奮語氣提及：「臺灣新蝶種，恭喜傑出的採集者像在汪洋中發現至寶，此在動物地理學上具重大意義，因為本蝶至今尚未發現於泰國北部，中國數量稀少，越南北部可能是繼臺灣之後出現的區域。」本亞種模式標本雄雌蝶各一隻於1908年6月2至14日採集自Kosempo（今高雄市甲仙區）。

Chandra Taal or Lake of the Moon is a lake in the Spiti part of Lahaul & Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh near the high altitude Kunzam Pass.It is situated at an altitude of 14100 feet above sea level.It gets its name from its crescent shape.It is situated on Samudra Tapu Plateau overlooking the Chandra River.There is no visible source of the lake but there is an outlet and the source is probably underground.
I could have probably got better shots of the lake if I had gone down to its shore.However we had reached the lake after a tiring journey of about 6 hours over very bad roads and we had to walk for about half a kilometer from where we had parked our vehicle to reach this spot.It might not sound much but try walking uphill at an altitude of 14000 feet and you will understand why i satisfied myself with these shots instead of going down to the lake.:-)
a wide-field view of the Puppis A supernova remnant along with a close-up image of the neutron star, known as RX J0822-4300, that is moving at a blistering pace. The larger field-of-view is a composite of X-ray data from the ROSAT satellite (pink) and optical data (purple), from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory 0.9-meter telescope, which highlights oxygen emission. Astronomers think Puppis A was created when a massive star ended its life in a supernova explosion about 3,700 years ago, forming an incredibly dense object called a neutron star and releasing debris into space. The neutron star was ejected by the explosion.

As the Event Horizon Telescope collected data for its remarkable new image of the Milky Way's supermassive black hole, a legion of other telescopes including three NASA X-ray observatories in space was also watching.
Astronomers are using these observations to learn more about how the black hole in the center of the Milky Way galaxy — known as Sagittarius A * (Sgr A* for short) — interacts with, and feeds off, its environment some 27,000 light years from Earth.
When the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observed Sgr A* in April 2017 to make the new image, scientists in the collaboration also peered at the same black hole with facilities that detect different wavelengths of light. In this multiwavelength observing campaign, they assembled X-ray data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), and the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory; radio data from the East Asian Very Long-Baseline Interferometer (VLBI) network and the Global 3-millimeter VLBI array; and infrared data from the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile.
The main panel of this graphic contains X-ray data from Chandra (blue) depicting hot gas that was blown away from massive stars near the black hole. Two images of infrared light at different wavelengths from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope show stars (orange) and cool gas (purple). These images are seven light years across at the distance of Sgr A*. A pull-out shows the new EHT image, which is only about 1.8 x 10-5 light years across (0.000018 light years, or about 10 light minutes).

In celebration of July 4th, we give you NGC 6946, a medium-sized, face-on spiral galaxy about 22 million light years away from Earth. In the past century, eight supernovas have been observed to explode in the arms of this galaxy. Chandra observations (purple) have, in fact, revealed three of the oldest supernovas ever detected in X-rays, giving more credence to its nickname of the "Fireworks Galaxy." This composite image also includes optical data from the Gemini Observatory in red, yellow, and cyan.

Chandra Taal, or Chandra Tal is a lake situated in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh
This is the deepest X-ray image ever obtained, made with over 7 million seconds of observing time with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. These data give astronomers the best look yet at the growth of black holes over billions of years beginning soon after the Big Bang, as described in our latest press release.
The image is from the Chandra Deep Field-South, or CDF-S. The full CDF-S field covers an approximately circular region on the sky with an area about two-thirds that of the full Moon. However, the outer regions of the image, where the sensitivity to X-ray emission is lower, are not shown here. The colors in this image represent different levels of X-ray energy detected by Chandra. Here the lowest-energy X-rays are red, the medium band is green, and the highest-energy X-rays observed by Chandra are blue.
