Along Highway 101 just south of the town of Bandon, there is a large outdoor display of what is known as chainsaw sculpting. In this land of lumberjacks and huge trees, chainsaw carving has grown into an art form and some of the pieces are truly fantastic! Popular subjects include Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch) and space aliens as well as mythical figures, but there are also more traditional subjects of fish, eagles, bears that are beautifully carved.
I kind of wish I had taken more time to photograph some of these.

(Missing you, missing your voice bro, yeah, i just called you bro right now... )
I'll take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
Walk in the house, lights are off
In the closet by the door, there's your coat
I wasn't thinking of you before
Too many rooms in this house, so I keep going out
What the hell is that about?
We gotta find a way to be okay
And maybe I'll just take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
I'm gonna break the fucking china
'Cause it's just one more reminder you're gone, you're gone
When I get home, TV on
Drink in my glass, better make it strong
Some nights wanna fill this space
With a tight dress and a pretty face
Keep finding things that you left on purpose
Did you plan it? Your timing's perfect
Gotta find a way to be okay
Maybe I'll just take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
I'm gonna break the fucking china
'Cause it's just one more reminder you're gone, you're gone
We were building brick by brick
Now it's just a quick sad home, yeah
So I'll take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
Ohh, I could put a sign in the lawn
But it'd mean that I would wanna let you go
And I don't wanna let you go
I could put a sign in the lawn
But it'd mean that I would wanna let you go
And I don't wanna let you go
I'll take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
I'll burn everything that binds us
Take a lighter to the mattress and run, run
We were building brick by brick
Now it's just a quick sad home, yeah
So I'll take a chainsaw to the sofa
Where I held your body close for so long, so long
Yeah, so long

“All devils are born bearing a name. As that name becomes feared, the devil itself increases in power.”
I left early this morning to find myself in a quiet place, in the middle of a lake, surrounded by nature. In the middle of this lake, I found a noisy symphony of chainsaws cutting silent trees. When the chainsaws stopped for a break, I was able to listen to the silence of the lake. Silence isn’t the absence of noise. Silence is the manifestation of emptiness.
And a few minutes later, the chainsaws began to cut noisily.

I took this shot in Winthrop, Washington on August 3rd 2023, and I went through there again on September 20th 2023 it was still hard to find a parking spot. Probably one of the busiest small towns in America.

Have a great weekend!
The crew of the Louisville, New Albany & Corydon always carries a chainsaw on the walkway of LNAC CS9 #86, a re-engined ALCo S4, and the reason is clear. Approximately 6 miles north of its home base at the Lucas Oil plant in Corydon, IN, the train is approaching Corydon Junction at New Salisbury, where the shortline interchanges with Norfolk Southern.
