Chadstone Shopping Mall roof in Melbourne

This was taken a few days ago when it was cold but not frosty; I went out this morning into 0 degrees and crunched around in the frosty conditions.

Another 5 more Covid cases today bringing the total to 49. Chadstone Shopping Centre is now an exposure site with the list of places growing again and spreading to many suburbs of Melbourne. It shows how easy this thing is to spread. Take care everyone and get out for a walk in the bright but chilly sunshine. HSS

Chadstone shopping centre is a place that scares me. It's enormous and I usually get hopelessly lost. But I would have to say that the recent extension has pleased my photographic desires.

Architects' description:

"The expansion of Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne, Australia, is a seamless celebration of engineering and architecture. The project’s centerpiece is a dramatic gridshell glass roof, which soars above what has become the largest and most popular enclosed shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere. The expansion accommodates upwards of 100 new retailers and a roster of leisure and food operators. The 31-meter high, 7,000-square meter roof was a multi-disciplinary collaboration of designers, architects and engineers working with research departments from the University of Stuttgart and the University of Bath. The design team relied on 3D parametric modelling, refining the massing through a combination of video animation and computer rendering. The roof is the first of its kind on the continent"

IMG_4341 - Newest addition to the Mall - Its hard to do justice to its immense size. Notice the people on the far right.

This is the largest Shopping Centre in Australia. Its 31 metre high atrium is made up of 2700 glass panels each weighing 200 kg.

Possibly on club plates now.

Hudsons Toyota of Caulfield seems to be long-closed now. I suspect Chadstone Toyota is the modern equivalent of it.
