One of the features of Patagonia that immediately struck me the most were the dead trees that dotted the landscape, like minimalist decorative sculptures emerging from the vegetation, smoothed by the wind and eventually succumbing to the harsh weather conditions that characterise this region, but stubbornly, proudly standing, somehow almost seeming to want to prolong the challenge against the wind.

According to some websites 'Cerro Paine Grande' is one of the world’s hardest mountains to climb. It's the highest peak in Torres del Paine, but it's controversial how tall he really is. Latest measurements result in an altitude of only 2884 m instead of well above 3000 in most maps.

The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a narrow mountain valley located in the province of Jujuy in northwest Argentina, 1,649 km north of Buenos Aires. It is about 155 km long, oriented north-south, bordered by the Altiplano in the west and north, by the Sub-Andean hills in the east, and by the warm valleys (Valles Templados) in the south.

Cerro Castellan, less commonly known as Castolon Peak or Castellan Peak, is a prominent conical mountain rising from the desert floor about a mile northeast of the Castolon ranger station in Big Bend National Park, Brewster County (at 29°09' N, 103°30' W). The mountain is part of a series of summits once known as the Carazones Peaks. Cerro Castellan's peak reaches an elevation of 3,293 feet above sea level, and rises more than 1,000 feet above the terrain below. The geologic origin of the peak, like that of so many other topographic highs in this region of West Texas, is differential erosion-a resistant rock wearing away more slowly than rocks around it. Cerro Castellan is a high stack of volcanic rocks, including ash, lava, and tuffaceous rocks. It is capped by a dense lava flow underlain by various tuffs and basalts. A northwest-trending fault cuts the eastern flank of Cerro Castellan. Though little vegetation grows on the sheer cliffs and steep, pointed profile of its peak, the lower slopes of Cerro Castellan support a sparse growth of Chihuahuan Desert scrub, including most prominently such characteristic species as creosote bush and ocotillo. The name Cerro Castellan seems to mean "castle-warden's hill," though the reasons for this name's adoption are obscure.

Tomasamil or Cerro Tomasamil is a highly eroded dormant volcano in the Andes located in the Cordillera Occidental of Bolivia (south-west Bolivia), about 5,890 m high. It's located inland from the Atacama Desert of coastal Chile, about 150km south-west of the famous Salar de Uyuni salt flats. It is also located 6 km east of Ollagüe, another extinct ultra prominent peak on the Chile-Bolivia border. Telelens.

Monte aislado situado en el paraje semiárido de la Hoya de Baza, que se considera un desgaje de la parte caliza de la Sierra de Baza, y que tiene una altitud de 1.488 metros.
Pertenece mayormente a las localidades granadinas de Baza y Zujar, en especial a esta ultima, y desde la carretera A-315 que se dirige desde Baza hacia Zújar parten carriles que permiten acceder a la cima.
En una apreciación falsa y arraigada en la población cercana, se dice que el Jabalcón es un antiguo volcán, lo que se asocia al hecho de manar de su interior aguas termales, lo que en absoluto tienen relación con su origen geológico.

En el municipio almeriense de Nijar, dentro del Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata - Nijar, en encuentra, junto al Mediterraneo, la pedanía de Las Negras, que recibe su nombre del monte que se encuentra a la izquierda del pueblo,
El Cerro Negro, una gran masa de material volcánico de color oscuro, que por efecto de la erosión ha esparcido sobre el mar y las playas del pueblo piedras negras que llenan las orillas de este color.
