The French record company Dreyfus organized the second edition of the Dreyfus Night on 7 July 1994 , at the Palazzo degli Sport in Paris , whose master of ceremonies was Michel Petrucciani. Dreyfus invited Marcus Miller who had played in Paris with her group the previous evening to participate. This group also included saxophonist Kenny Garrett. A quintet composed of Miller, Garrett and other musicians who had never played with each other nor with the two already mentioned was spontaneously set up for the concert, except for a collaboration between Michel Petrucciani and Lenny White. The fifth member of this improvised group was the French guitarist Biréli Lagrène.

Despite the lack of direct experience between the members, the concert turned out to be of a high standard and a CD was released, released in 2003 .

The disc consists of only 3 tracks, of over 15 minutes each. The first song is Tutu , which Marcus Miller had composed for the album of the same name recorded with Miles Davis in 1986 and in which almost all the instruments are played by Miller himself, with the exception of the trumpet. Here the execution is completely different, but no less exciting.

The second song is The King is Gone , still composed by Miller, this time on the occasion of the death of Miles Davis himself. The song appeared on the bassist's third solo album, recorded in 1993 .

The last song is Looking Up , composed by Petrucciani and initially recorded on the 1989 music album .

Throughout the concert the five musicians manage to amalgamate without overpowering or exaggerating in insistent solos and share the scene equally with an understanding that only their great skill allows, considering that it is the first (and only) time they play together, without no proof, and also considering the different setting of the pieces written by Miller compared to that of Petrucciani. The two leaders, however, do not overshadow the other components, with Garrett's sax that often stands as a protagonist, leaving space also for Lagrène's guitar solos and the ever-present accompaniment of White's drums.
