The geologic wonder that is the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, framed with the windowed CCC Shelter built high up on a bluff. The CCC used materials on hand...any question where they got this fieldstone?
Wide look at the Highway Concourse & Retaining Wall (now affectionately known as the "Castle") at Gooseberry Falls State Park.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built this, and other major and minor park features in the 1930's as part of the New Deal that was designed to get men back to work during the Great Depression.
Gooseberry Falls State Park is located in Castle Danger, north of Two Harbors, Minnesota on Scenic Highway 61.
This is in Lacey-Keosaqua State Park where we spent a pleasant afternoon yesterday walking the wooded trails. This is the second oldest state park in Iowa and in the 1930's the Civilian Conservation Corps built a number of stone structures here including this bridge.
A close up image of the exterior siding on a cabin built by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) circa 1935. Saw marks are visible on the wood which was cut and milled on site. The cabins are now part of Raccoon State Park and some are still in use today.

Hey all!
At first I want to wish you all the best for 2018!
Here's my 5th entry in the CCC, category fantasy fortress!
As I see myself as a fantasy-castle builder, I just couldnt resist getting an entry in for this category.
I went for quite a new concept(or at least, I havent seen this done before), and I think it turned out pretty good...
I didnt make any story or background for this build, as I want this fantasy fortress be open to your own imagination...
Thanks a lot for looking, and come back tomorrow for better photo's of my 6th and final entry...

Looking over a CCC-built stone and log picnic table at the stone pier and chain guardrail that was made at Gooseberry Falls State Park in the 1930's.
The park is located in Castle Danger, Minnesota (north of Two Harbors) on Lake Superior's North Shore.
First entry for CCCXIII in the micro category.
The MOC was designed around that house design, which I came up with during the summer but never actually tested until last month. This build is much more complex than it looks, which is partially why it ended up taking almost 2 months to build...
The micro watermill is based on the use of a bar as a corner beam. After that, the rest comes together with some SNOTted tiles and fiddly techniques. The roof, connected with a few clips, was one of the hardest parts.
The windmill is a bit simpler, but it was still pretty hard to get a nice tapered shape with a variety of tiny round structure techniques.
Update: this MOC is now on Lego ideas! Go support it here!
Voila, and here it is! My masterpiece of the year! An entry in the Haunted Inn Category of the Classic Castle Contest.
Approximately a month of building time and several different versions (I scrapped an entire landscape).
You will doubtless see this build in some of the various RPGs I am a part of, and it will also be posted on my Facebook (Please go check me out there!).
The street was a last minute addition due to much helpful advice which I conveniently ignored for several weeks. C&C appreciated!
