Full-frame 1:1 Macro lens with huge forward throw for close-up work, as shown. Good optical performance; noisy and slow AF — but who's going to use AF with a lens like this?

Some people asked me how when I decide to process a photograph as color vs black and white. The two rendering provide rather different results, and the decision is highly subjective.
For this photograph, the color version has a more afternoon feel to it, whereas by eliminating the color info in the black and white version, the compositions and forms are more articulate.
Black and white is not a one click conversion. I use a different psd file and rather different layer stacks (to each his own taste) to work on each of them. The absence of color often help when the extra color info distract the overall effect. Sometimes color information is helpful, to create a certain mood, for example.
The black and white is the same RAW capture but processed in Photoshop using the infrared filter. Black and white allows me to extract the fire escape while being sandwiched by the window + the backdrop. This is less efficient in the color photo - while you can tweak the luminosity level (or maybe even use the B+W rendering as a layer and force luminosity onto the color image) the colors often look fake.
Saint James' Church (Sankt Jacobs kyrka) located near the Opera House. Original 16th century architects were William Boy and Henry van Huwen, with subsequent additions and modifications resulting in a combination of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Copper roof added in 1910 which nicely complements the red-painted stucco.

Elodie x3, with Amanda, Jamie and Al. Had to edit this one extensively, correcting overlap, problems with Jamie and Al's faces (blur and eyes closed), and careful compositing. Took a while, and looks good to me!
