"The newest version of the G.I.Joe Snow Cat features a periscope for reconnaissance and targeting and a general purpose machine gun for close in defense. These additions, as well as the upper lamps all fold down to give full range of motion to the missile launcher battery when it's time to bring out heavier firepower. The long range ski missiles can still be launched in the old school manner across large open expanses of ice or tundra or ice. But if the ground isn't conveniently open and free of obstruction, the skis can be jettisoned and the missiles can be launched into the air more conventionally."
-----
The Snow Cat is actually the first G.I.Joe vehicle I started on - a few years ago, but I was never able to get it to look quite right. My first version used a different canopy and front wheel steering, which didn't allow me to seat two men side by side in the cabin. This ended up a little larger than the original Snow Cat, but I'm very happy that I was able to add a third crew member (the Snow Cat was sometimes depicted in the comics as having space inside for three), and I am happy with the somewhat angular windshield canopy solution, since it allows me to have opening doors on both sides, which seems better to me than having the whole windshield pivoting upwards.
The rest of the vehicle is stretched a little, and I was able to fit in some more features right behind the cockpit that I am very happy with (even as a kid, it always bothered me a little that the original Snow Cat didn't have any kind of a machine gun). The missile battery on the back has been expanded to take eight missiles and I've kept the ridiculously awesome ski missiles, although mine can be folded down to the side for easier crew loading and to give more space for the missile battery to rotate unencumbered.
With all these added features, my Snow Cat has a sort of Swiss Army Knife feel to it, and I'm really happy how it turned out. It's gone from being a frustrating unfinished MOC to a fun slightly upgraded take on a old classic. The Snow Cat is also a great design for modding, and I think there will be another version or two coming at some point. It's basically a half-track pick up truck, and anything could go on the back.

SLIDER SATURDAY 8/52
There are times that I find extensive post processing evokes a very different feel or mood from an image and sometimes I like the result.
Being more of a purist with photography, I seldom post these overprocessed images but I decided for 2012, I would post those images on what I have termed "Slider Saturday". These will be images that I have extensively moved the sliders in post processing.
