Il Castello Estense sorse nel 1385 come strumento di controllo politico e militare. La prima pietra fu posata simbolicamente il 29 settembre, giorno di San Michele, protettore di porte e rocche urbiche.
L'opera fu commissionata all'architetto Bartolino da Novara, già artefice del castello di Pavia e poi di quello di Mantova, dal marchese Niccolò II d'Este che ritenne indispensabile dotarsi di una potente macchina repressiva dopo un'imponente rivolta popolare scatenatasi nel maggio di quello stesso anno.

La marchesa scese dalla sua carrozza, si guardò attorno per rimirare il suo sontuoso castello.
Imponente, affascinante, meraviglioso, la rendeva fiera.
Alzò lo sguardo al cielo che illuminava il parco rendendolo magico.
Si sentiva orgogliosa di appartenere alla bella regione Emilia-Romagna.
Ringraziò il cielo e si inchinò davanti a suo maniero

Das Castello Aragonese ist eine Festung, die sich auf einer kleinen Felseninsel aus Trachyt an der Ostseite der Insel Ischia befindet. Sie ist durch eine gemauerte, 200 Meter lange Brücke mit dem alten Ort Borgo di Celsa verbunden, der heute mit dem Castello als Ortsteil Ponte der Gemeinde Ischia angehört.
The Castello Aragonese is a fortress located on a small rocky island of trachyte on the eastern side of the island of Ischia. It is connected by a brick bridge, 200 meters long, to the ancient village of Borgo di Celsa, which today belongs to the municipality of Ischia with the Castello as the hamlet of Ponte.

El Grau de Castelló de la plana (País Valencià).
The castle Catajo is a monumental 350-room building, was built in the sixteenth century by Pio Enea I Obizzi at Battaglia Terme (Padova). It expanded by the same family in the '600 and' 700 was later turned into the ducal palace from the Habsburg-Este family in exile from Modena and finally elected residence of the Habsburg emperors imperial resort of Austria. The castle is still privately owned and open to the public with museum function.
