1960s high tech! A compact cassette for music. Developed in 1963 by Philips of The Netherlands. Made music truly portable and personal.

Here the 3.8mm wide iron oxide coated tape streams over a plastic foam pad. The pad presses the tape against the record/playback head.

#macromondays #vintage

For the great upcoming theme calles #vintage i decided to use an casette tape which lots of us remember. Back in the good old days we used those tapes to listen to our favorite music. And who of us don`t remember it when we had to roll up the mashed up tape by hand ?

The Compact Cassette or Musicassette (MC), also commonly called the tape cassette, cassette tape, audio cassette, or simply tape or cassette, is an analog magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. Invented by Lou Ottens and his team at the Dutch company Philips in 1963, Compact Cassettes come in two forms, either already containing content as a prerecorded cassette (Musicassette), or as a fully recordable "blank" cassette. Both forms have two sides and are reversible by the user. Although other tape cassette formats have also existed - for example the Microcassette - the generic term cassette tape is normally always used to refer to the Compact Cassette because of its ubiquity.

Cassette Tapes - This brings back many fond memories. Way back then, my friends and I would request our favorite songs on the radio and wait for it to be played on air so that we can record them. That became our playlist and anthem. Cassette tapes were quite expensive for students like us, so we have to save up for them or otherwise borrow from each other. Now things are a lot easier, but our music lives on :)

I had all these cassette tape boxes and saw a box like this on instructables. Well I didnt have the original inserts, but I did have an abundance of pictures. I took xtra pictures of my nephew and made this Jewel/ storage box for my sister. You can use it for all kinds of things, like candy on a coffee table, or a trinket/jewel box, someplace to put the keys in the entry hall....

This is my first attempt so it is kinda rough.

I am going to put a false bottom in to cover the spots from the glue (cont'd)

A lot of my photos are inspired by music........

Its crazy how much music and how its heard has changed over the years.....Cassette tapes? what are those?......record players? huh.....?.......

I don't actually own a record...so I made one in PS.....

Macro Monday theme: "Back In The Day" and I have about 5 of these in my possession. A Cassette Tape, it holds the voices of my children when they were very young. I don't have a way of listening to them now, as I have no player.

On my walk today on Portobello beach I stumbled upon a cassette tape in the sand. While I find litter completely awful, cassettes are completely hilarious!

Posted for Macro Monday Group theme: transportation

Yesterday's technology.

I recorded this programme off the radio in 1996. I used to do a lot of it in those days. I still have drawers full of tapes that I haven't listened to in years.

The Macro Mondays group has chosen Tape today.
