Workers at Argonne load the RLC into the shipping cask. This a heavily shielded and very secure shipping cask that will ensure the RH TRU waste containers are safely and securely transported to WIPP.
The Next-Phase Transuranic Waste Project is squarely focused on reducing the quality of transuranic waste currently housed at Argonne. Removal of this material supports Argonne's overall goal of reducing nuclear footprint. The project accelerates work that has already begun by providing additional resources to drive projects across the site.

A calcite encrusted cask in a now closed commercial cave (Wonder Cave, I believe) in Middle Tennessee. Knowing that it takes about 100 years for one cubic inch of calcite to form, being dripped from above, one can almost estimate how long it took for this cask to become encrusted.
