I went to two photo museums while in Paris. This was one of them.
A loaded ore train is seen between Able and Baker on the southern end of the railway. The iron concentrate train originated at Mont Wright and will be unloaded at the massive Port Cartier facility a little over twenty miles south of here. QCM M636 81 was a common leader for us on my trip in Spring 2000, we must have caught this power set at least five times.
Geography and geology
Jacques-Cartier National Park is located in the Laurentian Mountains along the Jacques-Cartier River valley, to the west of Quebec Route 175. Jacques-Cartier is a 30 minutes drive from Québec City. Grands-Jardins National Park is located to the northeast of the park, while the Laurentian Wildlife Reserve is located to the north. The park is also located near the Canadian Forces military base CFB Valcartier.
The park contains several glacial landforms such as drumlins and moraine. The most prominent glacial landform in Jacques-Cartier National Park is the Jacques-Cartier Valley (French:Vallée de la Jacques-Cartier). The U-shaped valley is 550 metres (1,804 ft) deep and was formed during the last glacial period.
Flora and fauna

The plateau consists mainly of coniferous trees such as the black spruce, while the valley consists mainly of deciduous trees such as sugar maple and yellow birch. The invasive Japanese knotweed has also appeared in the park's boundaries.
The wildlife is typical of a boreal forest. Animals that can be found in the park include moose, caribou, white-tailed deer, gray wolf, red fox, the Canada lynx, the black bear, river otter, porcupine and the Canadian beaver. Atlantic salmon, brook trout and the Arctic char can be found in the lakes and in the Jacques-Cartier river. The park is also visited by more than 100 species of birds.

My trip to the wilderness of far eastern Quebec in the Spring of 2000 ranks as one of my Top Five railfan vacations of all time. We had decent traffic on the Quebec Cartier Mining and lots of sunshine, along with some great help from some friends who'd been there before and a few contacts on the railway itself. On this fine morning we are perched on the hillside that MacDonald Tunnel bores through between Baker and Charles sidings. The rush of the Spring run-off in the river below all but drowns out the whining of dynamic brakes as QCM 71 brings yet another trainload of iron concentrate from Mont Wright to Port Cartier. The MLWs were cool, but the scenery was almost better!

Quebec Cartier Mining Railway C636 78 leads a pair of M636s on an empty iron ore train. We wound up following this train north almost as far as Dog siding, nearly sixty miles to the north in the stark wilderness of the Canadian Shield. The lead unit here was one of three ALCo C636 demonstrators that wound up on the QCM following their second career as Morrison-Knudsen leasers. We also caught 77 leading on the road and 79 inside the shops on this trip, which was pretty neat. Gotta love those hi-ad trucks!

Loaded with Iron Ore extracted at the Mont Wright mine, ArcelorMittal 9002 Sud is passing thru unique scenery easily associated to the Côte-Nord part of Québec province.
With only 49 scenic miles to go before reaching the bank of the mighty St.Lawrence River at Port-Cartier, hopefully the crew will be able to head home in a couple of hours.

The two Cartier’s and a rent a wreck shake the earth at Cobbs gap as they lift PO74 out of Winton after making a grain pickup. After getting clouded at the Erie Jessup Branch trestle it was nice to be able to dodge some clouds here and get sun. Due to 3 out of 4 of the regular 6 axles being shopped the DL reactivated the 3602 and 3612 and sent them into service on Monday.
