Finally got a semi decent shot of one of these guys. Night photography and I don't meld well. I had fabulous views of a Flammulated Owl after taking this photo but at that point was too dark for my skill level. For this photo I used my car headlights but for the Flammulated Owl I would of had to have held the flashlight and the camera at the same time and that just wasn't going to happen LOL. It was a special moment just to watch that cryptic tiny owl in the open and calling too which is extremely late in the year for that. They usually stop calling around the first week of July. The Poorwills were eating all the bugs that were biting me and they are just such cool nocturnal birds to watch! I just love nightjars. The cool thing about Common Poorwills is that they are similar to owls. I say this not because they are nocturnal but because they eject pellets out just like them!

As the light faded all that was left to do was mess about with some long exposure photography! This one captured a car heading away from Sheffield towards Hathersage and the Peak District, with Burbage Edge visible in the background.

It is a landmark tree that I shoot when I can catch it - just as the road bends. It leans with the prevailing wind ... and the crows rise to greet the sun!

Le long du bout de la rue de Cerisé, à Courteille, l'heure bleue s'étend tandis que deux voitures passent tranquillement... Une ambiance en bleus et orangés qui me rappelle mes premières amours des paysages urbains à l'heure bleue...

This is the landscape I have been visiting for my upcoming series: "Closer to the matter".

I took this image from my room in the first night while I stayed there.

It is handheld at ISO 4000 without image stabilization, which means kind of useless closer up.

Nevertheless it shows the atmosphere so well, I didn't want to keep it for myself.

The headlights of a car went through iPiccy and PhotoScape for today's photo.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

This was a happy accident. I was turning out right after sunset and liked the way the car headlights illuminated the rocks.

This tawny Owl was only awake for a very short time, possibly due to his nocturnal habits.

Whenever I walk around town I become all too aware of the noise, the fumes, the frantic dash to be someplace else and the glare of headlights. It's just life and it's only when I'm out of my own car and experiencing it as a pedestrian that it hits home how detached we've become.

The trouble with being up a hill after midnight waiting to photograph a light trail from a car ... is that there isn't many!! I had to wait for 15 minutes for this car to drive through the frame..

.

Of course, once I had packed up and started off down the hill another 3 cars and 2 trucks passed. Photographers are well versed in Sod's Law!

Traverser les flots de tachyons et de photons pour atteindre l'autre rive et espérer avoir du bouleau à l'arrivée, tel est le destin de ce personnage... Ces personnages ? Se pourrait-il qu'il s'agisse de deux personnes de concert ?!

January 2014.

I had packed up and was ready to leave - then this view caught my attention. Somehow the grills/railings on each floor of the HDB (Housing and Development Board) blocks (residential apartments) on the right side of this image, in combination with the velvet-red color of the buildings reminded me of library bookshelves filled with books. Hence the title.

I then unpacked, set up again, and decided how I wanted to compose and convey this shot. I wanted strong, clean and uncluttered leading lines so I took about 8-10 images of this same scene with moving vehicles giving me different patterns of light trails. I decided on this one with relatively clean light trails on the left. As for the headlights of that car on the right - I like that in this composition, but that was pure coincidence. A few seconds after I captured this, the driver of that car had switched off the headlights - if I had been 5-10 seconds slower, I would have lost this moment.

This was much harder than I thought it would be but loads of fun, as you can see from the data there is nothing exotic about the settings. The background is side lit to give more colour and the shutter was triggered using a remote release a split second after power was applied to the lamp, this captured the filament as it was just warming up, so lots of trial and error to get just the correct orange that I wanted. The lamp is a 12 volt car headlight bulb powered by a 6 volt power supply to reduce the warm up time.

A few days ago I had to change a burned-out lamp in the car.

When I read the challenge of the week, I immediately knew what photography I would do.

The curious thing about the photo is that there is no suspension bridge: it's only an optical illusion created by the great amount of reflections inside the headlight.

After analyzing several samples, I chose the one that, by its lines and configuration, I found the most interesting of all.

Inside a car headlight: wherever you choose to go, enjoy the ride!
