Les berges du Lot.
Mende ville froide, oui, là où celle-ci n'a pas déjà été dégagée, la glace craque bien sous les pas. Mais la "petite" ville de Mende elle assure vraiment. On roule sur des axes routiers et, des rues bien dégagées. Il y a des chiens, certes, mais beaucoup moins de crottes qu'à Montpellier.
Les toitures recouvertes de lauzes d'ardoise, en forme de carène de bateau renversé, sont typiques des constructions de la vallée du Lot.

L'ancienne prieurale Sainte-Croix, aujourd'hui paroissiale, est un vaste édifice qui nécessita plusieurs campagnes de construction. Elle présente un porche datant du début de l'époque romane au-dessus duquel s'élève le clocher. La nef gothique est couverte d'une charpente en carène de vaisseau.
A l'intérieur, le visiteur admirera surtout le chœur dont le rond-point comporte des arcs aigus très élégants. Le porche nord a conservé les niches et les bases de ses anciennes statues-colonnes détruites à la Révolution. Les stalles de moines bénédictins du XVème siècle, la statue de l'Ecce homo en pierre polychrome de la fin du XVIème siècle et le maître autel du XVIIIème siècle constituent les plus beaux objets conservés à l'intérieur de cette église qui possèdent aussi un orgue Cavaillé-Coll du XIXème siècle, excellent instrument.
