As I was walking to work on a dark, foggy morning I saw a jogger coming towards me with a bright light on his hat. It was a dreary, wet morning but it didn't stop this gentleman form getting in his morning cardio.
Most of the year, the Dunlin looks like an unremarkable gray bird, subtle, soft, and barely noticeable. Think of him as the guy at the beach wearing khakis and blending into the sand. The only giveaway? That slightly droopy bill that says, “Yes, I am in fact a sandpiper, thanks for asking.”
But come breeding season, he goes full makeover. Out comes the rusty back, the bold black belly—suddenly he’s dressed like he’s ready for a sandbar fashion show.
This Dunlin is in transition. His belly patch says “not quite ready,” but his back is yelling, “Let’s start a family!” That bold patch is the classic look of a Dunlin ramping up for nesting season, and possibly rehearsing pickup lines.
His back says breeding, his belly agrees
He’s dressed up for the birds and the bees.

Redux of the October 20, 2025, theme, "Sparkle." This whimsical Christmas tree ornament is just under 3" in width, including the space on the left side of the picture. I lit it with three TTArtisan Super Mini LED lights.

In LA, the city is using street parking spaces for outdoor dining, retail and workout areas. Early morning is a great time for curb-side cardio
This s a fun way to keep fit with a full body workout. The drumsticks, exercise balls, and the tubs they rest in are all plastic, and these women are joyfully recapturing playfulness that they have inherited from their children! Happy Mother's Day

Trying to undo all that December food damage! 😉
What are your resolutions for 2020? Or is that just a load of nonsense with an arbitrary date?

Mount Tamalpais // Nikon D800e, Zeiss 21/2,8
Finished up work early today, and headed out to Mount Tamalpais for sunset. Met with my good friends for a great cardio intensive walk up to this gorgeous vantage point.
You may have seen this view with a sea of fog, but it was a rare clear day with an amazing sky of high clouds. It’s not often I have the trio of the hills and rocks, matched with a beautiful still sea and wispy beautiful clouds int he sky.
Since last Monday I have worked out every day on my Tony Little Rock 'n' Roll Stepper after deciding that my XL Glider was too gentle and wasn't working me enough. In just a couple of days I could see and feel the difference in my abs - I just wish I'd measured my waist before starting my regime so I could keep track of the inches I lose. I'm starting off gentle with 5 minutes daily, then this next week I will increase that by 2 minutes, then increase it by 2 minutes again for the next 7 days. This thing really targets your core as you instantly pull in as you get onto the equipment, in order to balance.
I want to get fit and fab for summer.
