Coloured pencils. As the weather outside today is really dull and foggy I thought the day could do with being brightened up a bit.
Lost marbles found. I lit this image from the side using a macro light to produce the shadows and colours projected through the marbles and used aperture priority mode to allow a larger depth of field while allowing a fast enough shutter speed to shoot handheld.
Pencil Shavings. I decided on this image as I was sharpening some pencils for my children and noticed how all the colours mingled and the different textures of the wood. I shot this using a 10x macro filter to help get really close.
First snow of 2013. I captured this image on my camera phone. I was taking my son to school and couldn't resist this picture of the beautiful skyline highlighting the snow covered windmill, plus I like the infinity point created by the road to no-where.
Swirly Colours. Well as Spring doesn't seem to have sprung and Winter still seems with us, I wanted to try and brighten things up. I had these markers lying around and they looked so colourful I decided to include them in my 365. I've seen some photos like this before but the lines were just straight so I wanted to give it my own twist and go for swirly lines instead.
Beauty on a grey day. As its an absolutely miserable day I didn't fancy going out in the rain but wanted to do something different from shooting set up shots in doors, this was the best compromise a shot from inside of the outside world. I like the refracted view in the raindrops on the window and the slight reflection of the camera lens. I shot this with a shallow depth of field so that the detail could only be seen in the refracted image.
Snowdrop reflection. Shot with a 10x macro filter and lit with macro light diagonally from the side. The snowdrop was placed on a glass place-mat to create the reflection with a book stood behind to prevent unwanted reflections. One of the first flowers in my garden this year.
Valentines mini project image 7. In honor of valentines which is only 1 short day away, I have decided to go for a mini project all about valentines. As it is also National Heart Month I have decided to capture different hearts this month.
My heart is in your hands.
Oil on water. I captured this in shutter priority mode to force a fast enough shutter as I had to shoot handheld. I set the shot up by half filling a glass with cold water and adding some olive oil and then adding a few drops of washing up liquid and swilling the glass to allow slight mixing, this was the second attempt after first ending up with nothing but tiny bubbles because of too vigorous mixing. I placed the glass on some wrapping paper to provide the colorful backdrop.
Wintery Sea. I captured this shot while out for a drive in Broadstairs this morning. The waves were breaking over the harbour and sending spray over 25feet across the car-park and shelter, got wet a few times while getting a good shot, but that's all part of the fun. I like the sun peeking through the clouds and highlighting the background of this shot while the dark foreground shows the true wintery feel of the weather today.
Odd one out. Shot in manual mode with an aperture of f/7.1 for 1/13sec and using a macro led ring light to light from the right hand side.
American White Pelicans - I am away from my regular computer, so I am relying on Picasa to help me process my photos.... wishing for LIghtroom :)
Thanks everyone!
All spiced up, Star Anise and Cinnamon sticks. I saw these while out shopping today and could not resist the temptation to buy them for some photos. I've been looking to try food photography for a while so hopefully this will give me the encouragement I need, there will probably be more shots to come with these and on the plus side the smell in the kitchen while doing these shots was lovely. I'll be on the lookout for some more ingredients to try.
The passage from sea to land. I took this photo while out for a walk this morning, I only had my camera phone with me as I wasn't planning on getting a photo this morning, I liked how the footprints of everyone who had made this trek were visible for others to follow and the different textures and contrasts created in the picture by natures elements and mans need to explore.
We caught and banded this male hybrid hummingbird. He is a cross between a black-chinned and a broad-tailed hummingbird. Measurements and colors confirm the ID.
Thanks all!
Macro pencil. Shot in manual mode with an aperture of f/11 to give a strong focus throughout and an exposure of 1.5sec. I used natural light to light this shot and was battling with the sun disappearing behind clouds at the worst time. I liked this shot because it highlighted the grooves in the graphite caused by sharpening with a knife.
Where I stand today waiting .... eyebrows and chin....omgosh! in my favorite 'go to' shoes....two prompts in one photo...! #cy365#captureyour365#favorite#25of365#whereistandtoday#ourwisproject#keens
Balanced on the edge of the counter, wary and cautious as he is, JAXson drinks water. Obby is waiting to the left for his turn. #cy365#captureyour365#action#JAXson
Snow covered Frosty the Snowman. I captured this image of my families snowman about an hour after we finished building it and the snow had accumulated on it and filled in all our footprints around the garden. I like how the hat and scarf colour is just poking through the fresh snow and how the fresh snow has added texture to the base.
Reculver Towers.
Today was my first day out and about after having to rest a bad ankle so I thought I'd get out and try to get some landscape shots for the first module of the practical photography course I've signed up for. I know Reculver towers quite well and have photographed it a few times before.
Out of the few I actually managed to get today this is my favourite so far, hence my photo of the day.
If anyone can give creative feedback on this shot I would appreciate it as I feel landscape is not my strongest field.
I shot this in manual mode with an aperture of f/11 for 1/500sec.
A window at the LaConner Quilt and Textile Museum that always captures my attention and 'focus'.....on the stair landing where you look before turning....lovely window! #cy365#captureyour365#focus#laconnerquiltandtextilemuseum
Snowy fence from a different perspective. Something a little different today. I shot this image through some beveled glass in my front door, I like the way the image is captured five times and love that this is a really cheap way of doing this rather than paying for an expensive filter to get the same effect.
My Sweet Magic - Couldn't find my cats' eyes marbles, so I had to settle for the real thing :)
Thanks so much everyone!!!
Valentines mini project image 4. In honor of valentines which is only 4 short days away, I have decided to go for a mini project all about valentines. As it is also National Heart Month I have decided to capture different hearts this month.
Confetti Hearts quite simply a pile of hearts shot in macro.
Finally my daisies have started blooming. The prompt I was working from was "from below".
ODC - alone
Peace and tranquility. I shot this in manual exposure, I chose candles for todays picture because I love how candlelight looks in photos.
Valentines mini project image 2. In honor of valentines which is only 7 short days away, I have decided to go for a mini project all about valentines. As it is also National Heart Month I have decided to capture different hearts this month.
I lit this image with an LED macro light stood to the left and a reflector stood to the right to help soften the shadows.
I love seeing 'art' in the ordinary. I saw this on the wall of the studio I visited a few days ago...a woodworking studio...monotone in nature, except for this shout of color on a wall. #cy365#captureyour365#wallart
Hoar frost on the ponderosa pines in my neighborhood—in the Davis Mountains, Texas.
Thanks everyone for the faves and nice comments!
A twist on the prompt today...! When brushing my teeth last night around midnight or such, I glanced down to see Obby watching me upside down. There were beautiful catchlights to be captured. #cy365#captureyour365#photoaday#Obby#nightlights
This is just one of many mountains you can see on the Scenic Loop through the Davis Mountains in Far West Texas.
Hope everyone has a happy new year!
Reds and greens next to each other on my stash shelves. #cy365#captureyour365#complementary #11of365
Of course I could live without , but I do love my morning coffee...and now it is "over the moon" for me to drink my coffee in my new orange Bauer beehive mug. #cy365#captureyour365
Raw edged applique and collage. I used small pieces in three values to create the still life. I love how the quilting adds shadows, textures, and movement. #cy365 #captureyour365 'off prompt' Day112/365.
Evening Grosbeaks are not a common sight in the Davis Mountains. This male has been hanging around in our yard for a couple of days. They are called Evening Grosbeaks because they sing in the evenings and Grosbeak because of their large bill.
Jesse getting a different view from the top of a bookshelf.
He was actually looking for a mouse that went up there... never did catch it. We have 3 cats and they can't catch a mouse!
Thanks all for the faves and nice comments.
This burrowing owl was almost too far away for my little point-and-shoot to get a photo... almost to electronic zoom. So pardon the extreme blurriness!
Thanks so much!!!
Order Out Of Chaos.
A bit like my life feels at the moment that order is only possible after much chaos also that you can't always see the wood for the trees.
I shot this in manual mode with an aperture of f/3.6 for 1/10sec. The shot was lit with natural light from a patio window. The background is the seat of a chair.
Valentines mini project image 8. In honor of valentines day I have decided to go for a mini project all about valentines. As it is also National Heart Month I have decided to capture different hearts this month.
The sparks of love. Sparkler image captured with 4 second shutter set to f11.
Playing with fire. I wanted to capture the sparks from the flint in the lighter and the inevitable flame. I shot this in manual mode with an aperture of f/11 and a 1 second shutter to allow time to strike the flint and get a flame.
A window view this morning, looking through at a picture perfect day. I am thankful for this window and the inspiration I see and feel every morning. #cy365 #captureyour365 day311 #windowview day262
