Previously unpublished archive shot from July 2018. Directly behind me was a gathering of far right extremists and a counter rally of anti-fascists. Needless to say there was a large police presence and a lot going on. I wonder what this guy was capturing.
I captured this rare visitor to Michigan last Saturday evening. I had heard a bunch of rumbling while I was at work that one had showed up at the beach in one of our local metro parks. When I got off work, me and my wife went to mass and after words headed over to the park. We located him out on the beach. He allowed me to photograph him without being spooked for a little bit. I spent about 10 min rattling off a bunch of images and then left him alone. Figured he needed some food and rest for the rest of his journey.
He was standing just on shore when this little wave came in and splashed off of him.

Conestoga Lake is half hour driving from home. The relative larger lake nearby. I went there quite often to shoot the sunset, it is a quiet and peaceful place, people kayaking, paddling, fishing, boating… Light was not perfect every day, it was different every time. This photo captured the people kayaking and fishing under the orange sun rays…

Ice dunes on the Lake Michigan shoreline became pretty cliche this winter, and photographs of photographers are always cliche. But with the warm weather that we’ve been having lately, the dunes, at least, will soon become a thing of the past…for a while anyway. :-)
Happy Cliche Saturday!
Last night we walked around the festive outdoor light display downtown and in our park. I thought I would try ICM to capture this waterfall light display. I have heard a few peers say they are unmotivated to shoot anything these days. I must admit that trying to capture interesting local scenes for 2.5 years during the pandemic, has tapped us dry at times, too. Sometimes, instead of asking myself what I am going to shoot, I ask how I am going to shoot it. This keeps some of the motivation going until we can travel again.

Cape Spear, at 47.52431612554679, -52.61917001889249 is the most easterly point in North America. It is closer to Paris, France, and London, England, than to Vancouver or Victoria, BC. In addition to its role as a strategic defensive location during WW2’s Battle of the Atlantic, many photographers enjoy capturing sunrises here. Seek out the first rays of sunshine to reach North America at Cape Spear, you will not be disappointed. I camped in the parking lot there hoping for a clear morning and am grateful I did.
