4th of July usually slides right by me as another day off to get stuff done around the house but this year I actually thought about it. I have little use for the over-the-top patriotism that is often let loose on this day. On the other hand, I do have a strong and enduring love for my country. It is, however, like the kind of love promised by those who take wedding vows..... "in sickness and in health", etc., etc. I won't deny or excuse the very real sicknesses but on this day I'll choose to celebrate the healthy parts.

This is an old photo I took on Cape Cod a few years ago. This family had just immigrated to the U.S. and you can see how happy they were to be here. I hope they were welcomed and absorbed and have found their niche. Today I celebrate the declaration of independence made by renegade immigrants 236 years ago.

Our tour guide told us that each of the Grashlycrumb tinies were repesented in the house. I admit I missed more than I got. Some I realized after we'd left and some I just never saw. If you see one in a photo I missed let me know!
