Portrait of Simone Geerligs. Watercolour on 300gr. 21x29.7 cm. Canson Paper.

As inspiration for my portrait of Simone, I discovered a portrait of the enigmatic Cesare Gennari called "Alegoría de la Pintura" .It´s an Oil on canvas. 119 x 98 cm. in Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica, Roma.

I haven´t found this painting in flickr, even there are some works of this mysterious painter from the XVII century.

I have long wanted to paint an Allegory of Painting. That was an issue during the Baroque painting.Simone Geerligs has been perfect for this purpose.

I have long wanted to paint an Allegory of Painting. That was an issue during the Baroque painting.Simone Geerligs has been perfect for this purpose.

If at first this work began as an inspiration of Cesare Gennari within the series "Merging with Old Masters" later it become something more complex taking some of El greco, and taking out the pigment from the paper some "spectrums" appeared; so I modeled some of this "ghosts" in the background till the resulting painting.
