Tonight we hosted our parents at our home for a dinner party. It was quite successful, as you can see by the trail of empty wine glasses!
Proud moment...not to be credited to me for what these small folks are doing but to be a witness to who they are. Thing One took piano for five years and we had several battles for him to do his daily practice in those early years. Princess Fierce gleefully practices every day and was doing her own practices every day for a year before she even began formal lessons. Thing Two rarely fights the daily task. I think Thing One just was not excited about piano. However, the guitar he cannot put down. I was in the other room when I heard strumming accompanying Princess Fierce during her morning practice...I stood silently in the doorway to this scene. Thing One came in and with her permission played the same notes she was learning on the piano with his guitar. She loved this. And he loved it too. My heart just grew three sizes when Thing One noticed me and just smiled at my presence. This moment of sibling love, cooperation and respect makes all those silly fights over practicing piano worth it. And yes, I do see a thin string connecting it all in my mind.
