For this group a project is declared at the beginning of the New Year and by the end of the year a total of 100 photos featuring your topic are posted. Each 25 are posted as a collage.

This is my second collage (25). Whenever I go anywhere outdoors, whether just to the mailbox or for a walk in the woods, I see more and more disregard for our environment. So, my theme is about documenting what I find. It may include candid shots of people in the act of discarding trash or properly placing it in bins, the trash itself, an unfortunate animal entangled in fishing line or a mask, or on the opposing side of things, ways to repurpose or recycle.

*Maybe my project will inspire others to recycle, help pick up trash on the ground, and/or stop littering.

This is my second time participating in the 100x themed group. I have decided that since wherever and whenever, I go anywhere outdoors, whether just to the mailbox or for a walk in the woods, I see more and more disregard for our environment. So, my theme will be about documenting what I find and researching how the litter affects our environment.

*Maybe my project will inspire others to reduce consumerism that leads to waste, recycle, help pick up trash on the ground instead of walking by it, and/or stop littering.

This is and HDR with 14 exposures at f5.6 (14 probably wasn't necessary, but I was bored)

Glass:

Glass is 100% and infinitely recyclable, meaning most glass products can be continuously recycled with very little loss of material throughout the recycling process. New, or virgin, glass is made from a combination of sand, soda ash, limestone, and feldspar – all natural resources that are limited and impact the environment to collect. Every ton of used glass that is recycled saves over one ton of these resources, as well as saving electricity, oil, and energy needed for manufacturing. For manufacturers, using recycled glass instead of making virgin glass lowers the energy and water required to make glass products and extends the life of furnaces and other equipment.

Most consumer-recycled glass is glass bottles or jars. When consumer glass is contaminated or unable to be made into new container glass products, there are other ways to reuse the glass in beneficial ways. Glass that cannot be made into new containers can be recycled into tile, filtration systems, concrete mixes, or even used for sandblasting in other manufacturing processes.

Note: The CZU Lightning, North Complex, and SCU Lightning fires were complex fires. According to the Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, fires are defined as "complex" when two or more individual incidents are located in the same general area and are assigned to a single incident commander or unified command.

E-waste is a popular, informal name for electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life." Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.

With the passage of the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 , certain portions of the electronic waste stream are defined and the systems to recover and recycle them will be administratively regulated beyond the universal waste rules that apply to material handling. Please review CalRecycle's efforts to implement the Act for more information.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus tells us why we should bring our own bag to the store when we go shopping. America uses 100 Billion plastic bags, each year. If we all used reusable bags, it would save 12 million barrels of oil each year! For more information or a transcript of this program, please go to www.CalRecycle.ca.gov

Expansion of the trail system in Addison will be great for the town. However, it is usually a small percentage of the population who uses these trails for running and biking. To encourage Addison residents to use these trails, I would like to suggest:

1. Poker Walks - People walk a short course, e.g. 1 mile and collect poker chips/cards at different stations during the course. The town could encourage neighborhoods and businesses to form teams for this event. Below are some links to other poker walks and images:

I would like to see more public art in Addison. Perhaps the town could form partnerships with Brookhaven College art students or the Craft Guild to create art in public places, e.g. Athletic Club, Town Hall, fire stations, elementary school, etc. Outdoor art could also be in private places like the Vitruvian Park development (with their cooperation), e.g. the cinder block wall on the west side of the Savoye Apts.

A number of local governments in California have implemented zero waste programs or passed resolutions related to zero waste. These zero waste guidelines don’t just apply to government facilities. They apply to businesses and other organizations as well. Environmental, Health & Safety, IT and Facility managers know that zero waste is important, which is why tracking your sustainability efforts makes all the difference.

What is Zero Waste?

Zero Waste is a philosophy and a design principle for the 21st Century; it is not simply about putting an end to landfills. According to CalRecycle, aiming for zero waste means designing products and packaging with reuse and recycling in mind.

Today, a 90 percent reduction of waste being sent to landfills is considered an achievable goal by such groups as the Zero Waste International Alliance and the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council. We can help businesses and organizations achieve this goal.

Recycle your used oil. CalRecycle PSA in Spanish. Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It just gets dirty. But oil can be recycled, cleaned, and used again. Recycling used motor oil conserves a natural resource (oil) and is good for the environment. Motor oil poured onto the ground or into storm drains, or tossed into trash cans (even in a sealed container) can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, and rivers (and it's illegal!). Recycling your used motor oil reduces this pollution threat. When you take your used oil to a certified center for recycling, you are protecting the environment, conserving a valuable resource, and getting paid for it!
