Too much black-ice for the bike yesterday, so went on walkabout to burn a few calories. I couldn't resist stopping for this iPhone shot down one of our local lanes. Note the traditional woven fence at right - some fine country craftsmanship there.

Not saying it's been a slow start, but this is my opener for 2021.

Hi there,

Macro Mondays is a weekly challenge theme group. This week's theme was "Damage," meaning things that are broken, flawed, non-functional etc.

This is a broken piece of a Butterfinger candy bar. By the way, I've heard that there are no calories in broken candy bars or cookies. I don't know if that is really true, but I'd like to think so! )0: HMM!

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I love hearing from you!

Have a wonderful day!

- The famous bobbly ones from Liquorice Allsorts.

A soft aniseed jelly button sweet, covered -sprinkled- with a crunchy sugar ball coating. The ones you either head straight for or avoid like the plague (love it or hate it). There are blue and pink ones.

They are called spogs or horse cakes.

- Liquorice allsorts (also spelled licorice allsorts) consist of assorted liquorice sugar candies sold as a mixture. These confections are made of liquorice, sugar, coconut, aniseed jelly, fruit flavourings, and gelatine. They were first produced in Sheffield, England.

Allsorts are produced by many companies around the world today. They are most popular in Britain, continental Europe (especially in the Netherlands where it is called 'Engelse drop', meaning English liquorice), Australia and Canada.

Thought I would start the new year with a well balanced diet but those cookies are so tempting. :-))

The Coyote pack - presumably a family group - I've been following for the past week have been feeding heavily on grasshoppers. It makes sense. These little predators are omnivorous: they will eat just about anything. To survive in a harsh environment such as the northern prairie, they will make use of any protein available, and prefer to obtain the most calories possible with the least expenditure of energy.

Grasshoppers are an easy meal for them. They are quickly flushed out of their hiding places in the grass and sagebrush, and the Coyotes are quick enough to snatch them out of the air. I've spent many hours observing them; they are eating well. If I were a scientist rather than a photographer, I would be timing them and assessing their rate of success, but I'm not so all I can offer is an estimate: each Coyote appears to be catching 5-10 grasshoppers per minute. Even allowing for a huge margin of error, this is still a high success rate.

Of course, the season is brief. A couple of hard frosts will kill off the last hoppers, and the Coyotes will turn to other food sources, mainly rodents, to get through the winter. For now, it's fat city on the wild prairie. And as everyone knows, grasshoppers are delicious!

Für jene, die Wert darauf legen an einem Tag besonders geehrt zu werden. Ich persönlich find ja, dass jeder Tag Muttertag ist !

To all of you, who want to be honored one special day. In my opinion every day is Mothers Day !

when I'm not at my best physical and mental, is my comfort but then "hello calories".

I was not allergic but you have to start somewhere, so here I am today with allergic rhinitis (runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, itchy throat and palate) a unpleasant time to go

Even though the heat, humidity and biting bugs are hell, summer walks in the woods are well worth it since the mushroom finds can be heavenly. Golden chanterelles taste as good as they look when cleaned up, with a rich buttery steak-like flavor, but without any calories!

If we burned calories like a hummingbird, that's how many calories we'd need each day, according to the LA Times. They consume about 66 to 120 calories a day (some sites say about 100 times as much, but they misplaced the decimal point). Fortunately hummingbirds weigh less than an ounce! I think they can be forgiven for trying to save energy by not hovering at each blossom.

"Turbo" is a male Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus) also known as spectacled bears because of the pattern on their faces. Turbo was born in 2010 and is now living at the San Diego Zoo.

Andean bears are the only species of bear native to South America and the most vegetarian of all bears except pandas. Only about 5% of their calories comes from rodents and insects.

The Ukraine war has highlighted the dangers of relying on a few globally-traded crops.

With 90% of calories coming from just 15 crops, experts at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London are hunting for ingredients to future-proof our diets.

Of more than 7,000 edible plants worldwide, only 417 are widely grown and used for food.

So after jam packed festivities full of stuffing our faces with turkeys & pudding (among other things) we figured it’d be best to walk off the calories and go to the mall! Cause I love going to the mall and Chaotic Paragorn just has to deal with it lmao! Snagged ourselves the new Polo Shirts from Cox Leather and BOY does Stan know how to make us look cute! So here’s a quick selfie of us looking aforementioned cute for yall’s reference 🙈

sometime soon snow will fall for some already it has ... our feather friends do need some help during this period .... here are some points I found to help them survive a harsh winter ....

Put out feed regularly, especially in severe weather. Set up a bird table and use high-calorie seed mixes. This can also be used to put out kitchen scraps such as animal fats, grated cheese and porridge oats

Put out hanging feeders for black sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts, sunflower-rich mixes or unsalted peanuts

Ensure a supply of fresh water every day. If it is very cold use tepid water, but do not use any antifreeze products

Put out fruit such as apples and pears for blackbirds, song thrushes and other members of the thrush family

Food bars or fat hung up or rubbed into the bark of trees is a great help for treecreepers, goldcrests and many other species

Put up nest boxes to provide roost sites for the smaller birds. They will then be used for breeding later in the year.

Counting calories, its the only way to go.....and it appears to result in a fine set of legs as pictured here.... :-) Taken at the steps of New York's Penn Station. Nothing too fancy here, but you have to wait a long time to get something of a desired comp, as there is a constant swarm of people walking up and down the steps. In entire view the stairs were an advertisement for a fitness gym.

Hope everybody is doing great!

For those noticing, yes it has been a long time since I have posted, and I dont have a good explanation for it, I did post this image on another site a bit ago, I got caught by a catchy colors blog thing on Flickr so wanted to post this. Believe it or not I do come back to the site fairly regularly and I do check out much of the work posted by all of you, and am amazed by what has been accomplished by all of you.

So I take this tentative step back, and will see what happens from there.......

Thanks to all my Follower and my great Sponsors ❤

A healthy Black Bear uses her eyes, ears, and especially her nose to detect salmon moving upstream to spawn along the BC coast. Hours can go by with very little action; it takes just the right conditions to induce the salmon to run their river. The bears know this and will wait all day. When the action does begin, the calorie payoff can be huge.

Those of you who have been following my work for at least a couple of years may recognize this as Georgina, the World's Coolest Bear. Working with her was not quite like having a pet bear, but close. She is a predator, but she also understands boundaries: bears on one side of the river, people on the other. Yes, we can all get along. A good starting point is to have a healthy respect, but no fear. I photographed this bear two summers in a row (Mel and others have been around her much longer than that), and not once did I have a twinge of doubt or feel unsafe in her presence. Wildlife are very attuned to our body language and whatever scent we give off, and they respond accordingly. My time with the coastal Black Bears ranks very high among the peak wildlife photo adventures of my life!

Hello winter! Time for active recreation in nature. There are many places for skiing in my city, which makes me very happy.

This type of physical activity is suitable for people of any age.

Leisurely skiing has undoubted benefits for the body. Moreover, the positive effect manifests itself in two directions at once - both physical and psycho-emotional condition improves.

Skiing is a great way to boost your immune system and improve your physical health. You can get rid of the tendency to constant colds, strengthen your body, and become more resilient.

Even leisurely skiing entails the consumption of a large number of calories. On average, an hour of riding burns 9 kcal per 1 kg of weight. For example, a person who weighs 70 kg will get rid of 630 kcal in an hour's walk. It is quite possible to lose weight by skiing even slowly. In addition, various muscle groups are strengthened, which gives the body definition.

Any active activity has a positive effect on the respiratory system, and that in the fresh air - especially. But it is important to breathe correctly when skiing - through your nose, then the benefits will be more significant. Skiing perfectly ventilates the lungs and helps remove harmful substances from them. In addition, due to increased blood circulation, the lungs and other organs are better supplied with oxygen.

In the process of walking, bone tissue is strengthened, joints are maintained in working condition, muscles are trained and strengthened. Specific movements, such as pushing and sliding, have a positive effect on the functioning of the entire musculoskeletal system. If a small child skis, he develops correct coordination of movements faster, and his bone tissue and skeleton develop more actively. Skiing is also recommended for people with spinal diseases. Thanks to regular walking, you can get rid of scoliosis, protrusions and other pathologies.

And many other benefits...
