The redtails made themselves scarce this afternoon, but a male Cooper's hawk was an acceptable stand-in.

We found the male hawk at the usual morning hunting grounds. Mom, meanwhile, was keeping an eye on the western side of their territory from the roof of the PMA.

This historic building in the Callowhill area used to be a meat storage facility for Armour & Co. Fascinating and unbelievably detailed history: www.phila.gov/historical/Documents/909-31_Noble_Street_No...

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) PCC-III no. 2327 is seen curving from Haverford Ave onto N 63rd St, nearing the end of its westbound run just a couple blocks away. The tracks heading out of frame to the left connect to the Route 10, providing a shortcut for deadheading cars between the terminus at 63rd & Malvern and the Callowhill Depot.

The hawks were hunting in 16th & Callowhill neighborhood this morning.

16th & Callowhill. T4 and F2 have yet to select a nesting site, although they currently seem to be favoring spots at the far East end of the territory.

Going like the clappers past the Crappers, London-bound 43023 passes fellow HST 43036 forging toward South Wales. The FGW pair recorded from Callow Hill bridge near Royal Wootton Bassett with a 300 mil lense.

In the background is part of the landfill site to the north west of Bassett which is owned and operated by Crapper and Sons. The site was opened by the family in 1985 purely as a depository for household rubbish but over time has morphed into a recycling business, their website proudly proclaims that "around 85% of all the waste material we receive being recycled into useful products" - it all sounds like a load old rubbish to me, the perfect blend of subject and medium.
