Major reworking of an old file. Hey it's rainy and cold here, so that means working on prints indoors :). The script on the image is from my caligraphy notebook, but I'm not sure if its a quote or something I came up with. "The Space between Dreams determines our definition of Reality"
A really old bookmark in a small bible. Sophia was my Gt.Gt. Grandmother.

A photo from a "terrace" within the Museum of the Future. The arabic caligraphy that you see are excerpts of poetry and its glass work as "windows" to the museum.

The visit to the Museum of the Future is an amazing experience. Its architecture and materials make it an unmissable view in the city of Dubai.
The structure, with seven floors, is covered in steel and glass with the glass pieces, that serve as "windows", forming excerpts of poetry in arabic caligraphy.

When I arrived, the lake in front of the museum's entrance was providing an amazing reflection pool.
This is a vertical pano. Not perfect, but I find it an outerwordly view!

Not finished. But drenched in color now....She'll get the flower and caligraphy treatment... and bit less deep red think. We'll see. She used to be:
This is the scene which my dad's describe to me about his childhood view on the Gate to his Home Town, DongLin Town in DongShan Island.
He traveled by Sedan Chair carried by 8 porters'. His dad's my grandpa's traveled by horse & sedan chair as well.
I am told that my late grandpa's have 2 guns with him. He have the tradional Qin Dynasty Officers' head dress(it does symbolized the various status of the position in their imperial court status from the color & design), the Western Military commander hat & the CowBoy hat!!
My dad's hardly see him return home to sleep; when he is back from his trans-continental business trip.
N.B.
I can recalled that; My late grandpa wear the Brown color CowBoy hat during my childhood. At noon time when he took a nap at his fishing pond's bamboo hut; He would cover my face using his Cowboy hat!!
12th hours before he died in 1961, he told me that:
"Son, I cannot make it to become a Global Business Tycoon.
I cannot make it to America!!
Although I have travel to central europe & Middle East...
I did not make it to America!!
According to my god-brother the ShaoLin abbot, you are going to succeed in the Western World!!
You are going to make it!!
Only You!! My Son."
I just wonder why he said my son?? I am his grandson!!
It is 1st time I see people dying in my young life, more so he is my grandpa!! So I asked him why he say that, he said he resign to his Karma & his fate based on his year, day & time of birth.
They have check yours' & that is what I said to you.
He said he is a self make man, he loose the wealth then he make it back , & it is even greater heights each time. These have had happened 3 times in his life!!
Grandpa is well verse with Feng-Shui, Astrology (both for Marinetimes & Fortune Reading), poem, arts, herbs & medicines, Kung Fu, .....etc.
Oh yes, he enjoy gourmet food too. His famous desert is Tappiocal Glue with sugar after meals!! Which I don't like it.
After a few drinks, he like to compose his own poems & writes caligraphy!!
So in his last word, he said:
Yes, A person cannot be resign to his/her fate, until he/ she last day in this world!!
He have over 11 children & 30 over grandsons' & grand daughters' and another 50 odds adopted children!!
I was only about 6th years old, but he said these to me.
I was worrying that I might get the T.B. & die later, if I getting too close to him.
As T.B. is the deadly disease of that era!!
Reeds in Lough Abisdealy, Lissard Estate in Skibbereen. This is part of a series I shot a few years ago. I took a look at some of the files last week to try and add to the series. To make these images I waded out into the lake composed and then waited for ripples to die down before shooting.
All of the images were taken on foggy or soft days with no wind.....
The composition of this image is such that the part of the frosted plant in focus reminds me of a musical note or caligraphy.

DANCE WITH ME – JOHNNY REID
For Michael
How fragile are our memories
a fleeting glance; a glimpse; a thread
as finely woven as a dream
that flies on delicate golden wings
that flutter and dance on southern winds
pulling us up and pushing us down
spinning us dizzily around and around
which way to turn; it does not matter
all things in time will right themselves
for now we revel in the moment
shiny sparkling bubbles unshattered
laying warm and half-remembered
lulled to sleep; fragmented dreams
keep alive those wondrous moments
that made life more than at times it seems
scattered pages of our journals
etched caligraphy maps our faces
we are young still; jumping hurdles
skip through leaves; kicking up the traces
a little smile about our lips
curved above sweet Cupid's bow
sits and does not dare to judge us
never would it sink so low
frowned concentration; dispensation
relieves us from the adult rules
not yet grown-ups; children at heart
we still play; remember school
now I look beyond your eyes
and see a different world
another life path stretched before me
I'm not the same; a different girl
to the one you knew back then
how old were we then; just turned fourteen
how simple everything first seemed
how comedic too; Midsummer Night's Dream
we turned it into a tragedy
me a femme fatale and you a city boy
I laugh out loud now at this memory
before my loving heart betrays me
last I saw you at the lake
sitting silently knees drawn up
head in your arms until you sensed
me close and your gaze took me in
no words were needed; we understood
the Summer's end was here and would
separate us all our lives
you would not return; I walked on by
without a word; our pact intact
when I got home I cried and died
a little death; un petit mort
one of the first scars on my heart
there would be so many more
now in this moment I yearn a little
to think how carelessly and brittle
the words we say “forever and ever”
only mean well sometimes never …

There are seven gates to enter the mosque, each named after Al-Asmaul-Husna, the names of God in Islam. The number seven represent Seven Heavens in Islamic cosmology. The wudu (ablution) fountains located on ground floor, while the main prayer hall and main courtyard located on elevated first floor. The building is consist of two connected rectangular structures; the main structure and the smaller secondary structure. The smaller one served as main gate as well as stairs and prayer spaces. The rectangular main prayer hall building is covered by a 45 meter diameter central spherical dome, the number "45" symbolize the year of Proclamation of Indonesian Independence in 1945. The main dome is adorned with stainless steel ornamental pinnacle that took form of a crescent and star, the symbol of Islam. The smaller secondary dome is also adorned with stainless steel pinnacle with Arabic caligraphy of Allah

Macau
A-Ma Temple
Approximately four hundred years ago the Portuguese landed on a sea promontory near a temple. They asked the local inhabitants the name of the land, but the locals misunderstood, thinking that the Portuguese were asking for the name of the temple. So they answered 'Ma Ge', which was the name of the temple. Later, the Portuguese translated the named into 'Macau' and used it to refer to the land. In actuality, this temple is one of the three famous Buddha halls in Macau- the A-Ma Temple.
The A-Ma Temple, located in the southeast of the Macau Peninsula, is the oldest temple in Macau. It was constructed in the year of 1488 of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to commemorate Mazu, the sacred sea goddess who blesses the fishermen of Macau. It is said that the goddess was called Lin Mo, and that she was born in Putian City, Fujian Province, and was more intelligent than other children her age. She could predict good or ill luck and after her death she often helped merchants and fishermen ward off calamities and turn danger into safety. Now there are a number of folktales about the great goddess narrated in the littoral lands.
The A-Ma Temple is a destination offering silence and spectacular views. The temple contains six main parts, all of which make up a series of classical Chinese architectural treasures, and this is all guarded by stone lions. Entering the temple and going across a gateway, you will reach the Hongren Hall by a winding path. A statue of Mazu is worshipped here, and it is believed that the hall has the longest history in the complex. Going ahead, the Hall of Avalokitesvara will present itself to visitors. It was constructed mainly using bricks and stone in a simple style. Compared with the other halls, the Zhengjiao Chanlin (a Buddhist hall) was designed tastefully both in regards to size and architectural style.
Containing not only an ancient architectural complex, the temple also possesses a measure of the rich and profound Chinese culture. It is worth your while to stay and enjoy the various poems and inscriptions carved on the stone along the cliff. Furthermore, each year, on the days of the birthday of Mazu and the Chinese New Year, many male and female disciples gather here. They burn lots of incense to pay homage and pray for good fortune.

ODC2 - Begining with J
22/10/11
No kids involved in the challenge today, except for bugging me when I was trying to set this up..lol I really need to get me some coloured rope light and some pretty colourful tea light holders. I was trying to accomplish a nice bokeh but am not very happy with the result, I like the colours but want more of the little bokeh spots...or whatever it's called..BARB I need your help.lol
Anyway, my head was blank today, couldn't think of anything begining with J. Japanese was one of the few things that popped up in my head. I have always thought Chinese/Japanese caligraphy is so beautiful so that's what I went for.
