Crazy Tuesday Theme: Geometry
Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊
Paris
Ebony and other woods, tortoiseshell, ivory, oil paints on copper.
The strictly and geometrically designed corpus of this Parisian cabinet was decorated with rich carving and finely engraved ornament.
The interior contains a concealed great hall with the mythological lovers Venus and Mars at its center.
Unlike the freestanding ivory cabinets made at Augsburg, this cabinet-on-a-stand was positioned in front of a wall.
Bavarian State Museum, Munich.
This is how they live now. Finally I don't have to worry that our cats somehow manage to get on their shelf, yay! :D
The cabinet is called smådal... maybe it should be filled with only little dals ^^
Cabinet is unusual, combined from four different pieces with different age (18-19th century) and origin (Transylvania). At the time of collection hens were kept in it.

Spent yesterday at the DiRosa museum and sculpture garden in Sonoma with fam. Among other wonders, got to see Sam Yates' 65' tall filing cabinet. During construction, Yates disassembled an entire MG sports car piece by piece, rolled over the bits with a steam roller, then added them to the drawers, "cataloguing and storing each fragment with a label like an auto parts shop." The DiRosa consists of two indoor galleries where you learn about the California "Funk Art" tradition, then get to experience the funk both indoors and outdoors, while walking along a tree-lined lake. Really lovely how it's all put together. They've been hit hard by Covid, which is a shame since this really is the perfect Covid activity (at least the outdoor part). They need visitors - consider taking the family!
heres a pic of part of my huge old country cabinet from the later 1800's. To the left is a Mothers Day photo collage my son Ryan made for me, with the help of his gram. I bought the Raggedy ann in Smicksburg Pa last sunday. Old enamelware, pottery bowls, cookie cutters, and tarts are nestled in the shelves. And yes thats the top part of my old wooden wagon wheel off of a wagon.

This cabinet card by A. F. Colbarne of Canterbury, England is a photo caricature made by double printing that combines the head of a young man with a drawing of a small body and a bicycle. It is a later take on the earlier images where subjects held a card with a small body under their chin.
