More and more wanted in our fragile Ecosystem.

___________

Dear friends,

unfortunately, I didn't have much time for Flickr lately.

...My thoughts and wishes go to the people in regions hit by a horrible heatwave lately ( North America) and the regions in my country (North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate),

parts of Benelux Union, Denmark and Austria ,

hit by a devastating flood disaster some days ago..Fingers crossed.

From tomorrow on, I will be away now for about 10 days.

Many thanks for your kind visits and comments.

Looking forward to watch your lovely images after may return.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend.

Herons are shy creatures, but sometimes you are at the place, and then they arrive.

This time I was sitting in my car and the heron came closer and closer. So he allowed me to look for ca. 10 minutes while he was feeding on very small fish.

Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. About 53.5 square kilometres in area, it is about 25 km long and about 4.5 km wide at its widest. It is one of the world's relatively few tidal lakes, and among the largest. In Pitt Lake, there is on average a three foot tide range; thus Pitt Lake is separated from sea level and tidal waters during most hours of each day during the 15 foot tide cycle of the Pitt River and Strait of Georgia estuary immediately downstream. The lake's southern tip is 20 km upstream from The Pitt River confluence with the Fraser River and is 40 km east of Downtown Vancouver.

Pitt Lake is in a typical U-shaped glacial valley in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains. The overdeepening of the lower end of the valley over the span of the Wisconsin glaciation created a trough over 140 m below current sea level. After initial glacial retreat at around 13,000 years ago a saltwater fjord occupied this basin when relative sea levels were still ca 120 to 140m above current levels in the region. Unlike neighbouring Indian Arm and Howe Sound farther west, this fjord basin became partly cut off from tidal waters by sedimentation of the lower Fraser River ca 10,500 years ago, and Pitt Lake is now considered a tidal fjord lake.

Pitt Lake is the second largest of a series of north-south oriented fjord-lakes incising the southern slopes of the Pacific Ranges, the largest being Harrison Lake located 60 km to the east. The other fjord-lakes include Coquitlam Lake, Alouette Lake, Stave Lake, and Chehalis Lake.

The Pitt River drains into the northern end of Pitt Lake. The western shore of Pitt Lake are protected within Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, while most of the eastern shore are protected within Golden Ears Provincial Park. The southern end of Pitt Lake features an extensive marshland called Pitt Polder. While most of this marshland has since been drained for agricultural use, the northernmost portion is strictly protected in order to provide critical habitat for migratory birds.

Ab 1929 Burbach-Kaliwerke A.G., Magdeburg, Werk Krügershall, Bhf. Teutschenthal. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Werk gemäß Befehl Nr. 124 der Sowjetischen Militäradministration in Deutschland ein SAG-Betrieb (Werk Krügershall). Ab 1952 dann VEB Kali- und Steinsalzbetrieb Deutschland (zugehörig der Hauptverwaltung „Kali“ beim Ministerium für Berg- und Hüttenwesen). Schließlich 1970 VEB Kombinat Kali, VEB Kali- und Steinsalzbetrieb „Saale“, Werk Teutschenthal und ab 1988 VEB Kalibetrieb „Ernst Schneller“ Zielitz, Werk Teutschenthal. Ab 1. Juni 1990 wurde die Treuhandanstalt Berlin alleiniger Gesellschafter der KALIMAG GmbH, Bahnhof Teutschenthal, Straße der Einheit 8.

On the following day I decided to skip Sintra and its architecture photos and went to Magoito beach some 15 Km (ca. 10 miles) out of Sintra. I've been living in hinterland Covilhã for over ten years now, and and I was longing for a good look at the sea.

In fact, in my early days, I spent a few summer holidays in Magoito, for my then father-in-law had a summer house there, and It all felt a bit like going down memory lane. It feels curious how can the beach look the same when I am 50 years older. Something just doesn't add up.

To access the beach you have to go down a very long stairway. I find the view from above a treat.

The Chapman Estate is a Tudor Style mansion and gardens situated on 11 lots on the cliffs of Pismo Beach. It was built in 1930 by Arthur and Celia Rogers.

From "About Pismo Beach" : "(It) has been an integral part of the Shell Beach community since Clifford Chapman purchased the property in 1962. He and Don Shidler, Chapman’s partner of almost 50 years, collected art and treasures from around the world that are now displayed in the house and on the grounds. They hosted numerous parties and opened the Estate for non-profit events year-round."

It's only open sporadically and was closed Sunday morning 10/16 when I stopped by. I took some shots over the fence, but got this sweeping view with my drone.

The property has a pagoda with a koi pond, a windmill, AND a lighthouse!

The Fünffingerfelsen is a bizarre sandstone formation in the Klusberge near Halberstadt. It consists of five stone pillars about 10 meters high, four of which are close together and one about 10 meters apart. From a distance, these pillars resemble the five fingers of a hand stretching towards the sky from the top of a smaller mountain, also made of sandstone.

We had our first storm of the Fall on Monday afternoon, and rain pretty much fell for most of the night. Parts of the Southland got about 1/2" of rain.

After standard HDR processing, (3 exposure in Photomatix, Topaz DeNoise and RAW processing in Photoshop CC) I applied an Aurora HDR "dramatic" filter and Photoshop plastic wrap filter on top of Topaz Sharpen on just the foreground at different opacities as layers.

The traditional cathedral fireworks usually take place every Friday during cathedral time at around 10:30 p.m. and last about 10 minutes. I watched the spectacle opposite the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken at the exit of the Old Elbe Tunnel.

Night shot program = 4 photos processed into one.

The video before (MVI_Biber) was recorded about 10 minutes beforehand.
