This is either a preparatory study for Vernet's now lost painting Ismail and Mariam (1819) or an enlarged copy of the central figure. The subject is derived from Voyage dans le Levant by the Comte de Forbin (1819), which tells of the tragic love of the young Arab Ismail for the Christian girl Mariam. After Mariam's death, Ismail is forced to leave the place where she is buried, but comes to the grave and opens it in order to look on his beloved one last time. Suddenly a sandstorm blows up and buries Ismail alongside the girl. The theme of fateful passion, the dynamic contrasts of light and shade, the effective contrast of the dusky face and the white turban, and the artist's interest in depicting feelings and emotions (note the bowed head, the sorrowful gaze) give this painting much in common with the work of the Romantic artists.

Gwydir Castle is situated in the Conwy valley, Wales, a mile to the west of the ancient market town of Llanrwst and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the south of the large village of Trefriw. An example of a fortified manor house dating back to c1500, it is located on the edge of the floodplain of the river Conwy, and overlooked from the west by the now-forested slopes of Gwydir Forest.
History
There have been fortifications associated with this site since AD 600. In the Early Middle Ages numerous skirmishes were fought in the area between the post-Roman kingdoms of Wales. Two significant encounters were in AD 610,when Llywarch Hen, a bardic prince of Rheged, fought a bloody battle nearby (Gwydir might be derived from gwaed dŭr - the bloody land) and later when the Kingdoms of Gwynedd and Deheubarth fought a major battle near Llanrwst in AD 954 .
The entrance
By the 14th century, the Wlesh knight Howell ap Coetmor, who had fought in the Hundred Years' War as a commander of longbowmen under Edward, the Black Prince at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356 is recorded as the first owner of a manor house on the site. He would later go onto support the rising led by Owain Glyndŵr.
By the 16th century, Gwydir had become the seat of the powerful Wynn family who were descendants of the Kings of Gwynedd. The Wynns were one of the most significant families of north Wales during the Tudor and Stuart periods.
Following the Wars of the Roses the castle was rebuilt by Meredith ap Ieuan ap Robert, the founder of the Wynn dynasty. The house incorporated re-used mediaeval material from the dissolved Abbey of Maenan. The square turret at the rear of the Solar Tower contains a spiral staircase taken from the Abbey and many elaborately carved stones can also be seen. The turret was added around 1540 and Sir John Wynn's initials can be seen above the main entrance in the courtyard gatehouse along with the date of 1555. The surviving buildings date from around the year 1500, and there were alterations and additions in c1540, c1600 and c1828, the latter after Lord Willoughby had done a fair bit of demolishing in c1819.
Although called a castle, it is an example of a Tudor architecture courtyard house or fortified manor house, rather than a traditional castle, such as those built in North Wales by Llywelyn the Great and Edward I.
Gwydir was home to Katheryn of Berain. King Charles is said to have visited Gwydir in 1645 as the guest of Sir Richard Wynn, 2nd Baronet, Treasurer to Queen Henrietta Maria, and Groom of the Royal Bed Chamber.
More recently King George V and Queen Mary stayed here as the Duke and Duchess of York, in April 1899.
The Gwydir Estate
The yew walk
During the 16th and 17th centuries the Gwydir Estate under the Wynn family dominated north Wales, and at the centre of this huge estate, Gwydir itself stood in a deer park of some 36,000 acres (150 km2). In 1678 it passed by marriage to the Barons Willoughby de Eresby, based in Lincolnshire (and from 1892 also to the Earls of Ancaster). The 18th century consequently saw a period of some neglect, and by the early 19th century the estate largely comprised the parishes of Dolwyddelan (where the Wynns also had an ancestral home), Llanrhychwyn, Trefriw, and Gwydir, totalling some 55 square miles (140 km2). This land, however, was mostly mountainous and of poor quality, and although there were some 30 slate mines on the land, of varying sizes, this slate was not of a particularly good standard, much of it more suited to slabs than roofing slate. Nor was production high, and the output of all the quarries over the 150 years of their existence totalled, for instance, just two years' worth of output from the Blaenau Ffestiniog quarries. Prior to the arrival of the railway in the 1860s, most slate was carried by cart to the quays at Trefriw. The estate also owned a number of mineral mines, mostly in the area of today's Gwydir Forest.
Much of the estate was, however, under continuous mortgage, and in 1894 Dolwyddelan was sold off, followed in the next two years by most of Llanrhychwyn and Trefriw. The sale of the house in 1921 by the Earl Carrington saw it passing out of inherited ownership for the first time in over 400 years, and virtually all other lands were subsequently sold off. Today the estate comprises just the 10 acres (40,000 m2) in which Gwydir Castle sits.
Stones forming the late Norman south doorway into the nave have been taken down and reset during the rebuilding of c1819, the numbering can still be seen , to the right are 3 carved heads along with the old consecration cross. - Church of St Giles, Acton Beauchamp Worcestershire
Six terrace houses. c1819, altered c1875. Rendered and painted, with pantile roofs. Two storeys, except No.8/9 heightened by two extra storeys, single window cottages. Nos 8 and 9 have been amalgamated as No.9. Ground floor of each has panelled door to right with three-pane rectangular light over. Window to left. Continuous band at door and window heads. Centrally placed window above. Cornice, parapet, tall ashlar stacks with pots.
The leases of these houses date from 1819, and they do not appear on the Godwin map of 1810. The late C19 alterations to No.8 and 9 were presumably a part of Isaac Pitman's conversion of the premises into his Fonetik Institute in c1875.

St John's Church , Killesher , Florencecourt , County Fermanagh (c1819).
This church was described as being a small church in 1837. I can only assume it has been enlarged several times since as it is a fairly big church now.
Located near the village of Florencecourt near the national trust property of Florencecourt House and not far from the famous Marble Arch Caves.
This completes the diocese of Kilmore, from Loughan church in County Meath , all the way up to Finner in Bundoran

In March 1679, Richard Frith and Willian Pym were developing Soho Square, then known as Fryths Square. A timber merchant, Cadogon Thomas of Lambeth, held a lease for a great corner house, coach house and stables. Aristocrats who lived in the Restoration House included the second Baron Crew, Lady Cavendish and the dowager Countess of Fingall but the longest residence was of William Archer MP from 1719 until 1738.
The house was partially rebuilt by Joseph Pearce of St James’s, a bricklayer, and George Pearce of St Martin’s, a plumber. The lease – granted by the Duke of Portland in 1746 – shows that the Georgian ground plan of the house is largely unaltered since then. The stable yard is now the site of the Chapel.
The rococo decorative scheme dates from 1754. It was probably designed by Sir Robert Taylor (1714-1788) under the patronage of Richard Beckford, an MP for Bristol (1712-1756) who had acquired the lease but whose illness and early death deprived him of enjoying the masterpiece.
In 1811 No.1 Greek Street ceased to be a private house and became the offices of the Westminster Commissioners of Sewers. Then in 1855, the Metropolitan Board of Works – with newly elected engineer Joseph Bazalgette – became its latest residents. During this period the nineteenth century additions were added at the back of the House.
Meantime, 1846, Dr Henry Monro (1817-1891), a young physician, and Roundel Palmer (later 1st Earl of Selbourne, 1812-1895) worked with friends to found a House of Charity that would provide individuals with timely help. It rented what is now Artists House in Manette Street, a building that was originally designed by James Paine as St Anne’s parish workhouse and built in what was Rose Street between 1770 and 1771.
In 1859, Charles Dickens’ ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ was published and immortalized the garden and a plane tree beneath which Dr Manette and Lucy were portrayed entertaining. The tree still stands in the garden between the two buildings that the Charity has occupied.
n 1862, after half a century the local authority moved to new offices, the Charity purchased No.1 Greek Street and on Thursday 26th June the new premises were blessed. Catherine Gladstone, with help from her husband William, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, laid a foundation stone for a Chapel designed by Joseph Clarke FSA (c1819-1881). William spoke of the House as the only home of refuge “for the waifs and strays of the turbid sea of human society” and about the great advantages of the personal work of charity that associates of the House were performing.
On Monday 27th June 1864 the first services took place in the new Chapel of St Barnabas, the saint whose name was later adopted for the House. By then sisters of the Community of St John the Baptist had moved into the old workhouse; we believe that they stayed there until 1899 but continued to help in the House until World War Two.
During the Second War, the Chapel sustained bomb damage and the restoration, 1957-58, brought fine stained glass by John Hayward (1929- 2007), including St Barnabas holding the Chapel and a remarkable set of Stations of the Cross.
In 2005, the trustees decided that it was no longer feasible to operate the House as a hostel. The last residents were resettled by Friday 31st March 2006 and we embarked on an exciting new journey of using the House for social enterprise. The integrated Employment Academy supports the original objective of helping individuals through personal work.

Victoria Quays - Terminal Warehouse.
Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, Sheffield Canal Basin.
Terminal Warehouse, c1812-1819.
Grade ll* listed.
When the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, some four miles long, was opened on 22 February 1819, the Terminal Warehouse was one of the largest buildings in Sheffield. It was designed so that a keel could enter the building to be unloaded and loaded in the dry and provided secure storage for a wide variety of goods, including foodstuffs, on the upper floors.
The building is of brick with large stone-dressed arched openings at the ground floor, one forming the boat hole enabling goods to be hoisted from keels directly to the upper floors.

Victoria Quays - Terminal & Grain Warehouses
Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, Sheffield Canal Basin.
Terminal & Grain Warehouses
Grain Warehouse, c1889.
Grade ll listed.
Built by the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Company to store grain brought into the town by barge before it was taken to the local corn mills and breweries. The canopy projecting 0ver the basin and the enclosed hoists ensured the grain was kept dry as it was unloaded. Grain was winched to the roofspace from where it was distributed into timber hoppers inserted in 1925, that occupied the total envelope of the building prior to restoration in 1994-95.

Researching the Fonderie Générale (Paris, 1834–1912) raised some perplexing questions about the history of this famous ornamented Didone.
Twentieth-century historians attribute the design to Molé in c1819.¹·²·³ Indeed, the conservative styling is compatible with fonts intended for title pages of scholarly and literary books, mainstay of the publishing industry during this period.
The 1835 catalog issued by Tarbé (Molé successor) states that text, titling and display faces are offered therein. Even so, none resembling Molé Foliate is shown by any Molé successor in five digital specimen books dated 1835–1896. On the contrary, surface ornamentation is limited almost exclusively to tuscans and egyptians.
Jaspert et al. (2001) note the then-current letterpress font source as Stephenson Blake² & Co. Ltd. (Sheffield). Millington explains that the face was “redrawn by S.L. Hartz from a design by the Parisian typefounder Molé.”⁴ Sem L. Hartz was associated with the Enschedé TF (Haarlem). SB introduced it in 1958 as “An Exotic Display Type.”
•Did Molé transfer rights to this design before 1835?
•If so: to SB? Enschedé? Another TF in existence at the time?
•Did Molé design the leafy ornamentation attributed to him today? Or…
•Did Hartz superimpose his own concept on an existing Molé roman?
An anonymous developer digitized revivals of this font [above] and a matching “plain” one in 1997.
