The original mill De Zwaluw was built in 1875 as a corn and pearl barley mill. Additionally , it was used as a saw mill.

The mill was listed as a Rijksmonument in 1971. In November 1972, the mill was struck by lightning and burnt down, leaving the base and saw mill standing. Restoration started in 1984 and completed in 1987.

Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Molenwaard, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder in the Alblasserwaard. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Although the original church was founded in the 11th century, the present baroque structure dates from its rebuilding in 1753 following damage sustained during the Austrian bombardment of 1749. The brick bell tower, or campanile, is one of the oldest left in Venice, probably dating from the 12th century.

The painted-snipe is not related to the true snipes and differs from them in habits, flight and appearance, being far more colorful and having longer legs than the snipes. It is unusual in that the female is larger and more brightly colored than the male, with the sides of the head, neck and throat a rich chestnut brown, and a distinct black band across the breast; the male is paler and greyer.

Mostly in the animal kingdom the males are more beautiful than the females. There are exceptions of course, like in humans, where females are far more beautiful than males. This bird is also an exception. The female is more colourful. I saw a female as well, but couldn't get her well on the photo.

Ir-Rabat (Victoria) is the capital city of the island of Gozo. The name Victoria was given to the town in 1887 in honour of the famous British Queen’s Golden Jubilee. At the same time, the town was raised to the status of a city becoming officially known as Citta’ ir-Rabat (Victoria).

The Cittadella contains churches and other historic buildings, including the Cathedral of the Assumption, which was built between 1697 and 1711 on the site of an earlier church. The citadel has been included on Malta's tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1998.

Every 2 years the Grand-Place (central square) in Brussels is covered with a flower carpet of begonias during 3 or 4 days. The carpet of 77 m x 24 m is composed by about 120 volunteers, with nearly one million begonias.

This year, in 2016 the event was from Friday 12 to Monday 15 August 2016 at the Grand-Place (Grote Markt) in Brussels.

(Athough they said it is made of Belgian Begonias, I noticed a lot of Dahlia's !)

The theme this year (2016) was Japan, and you can see the Japanese flag in the design, Koi carps, Bonsai , Bamboo and the crane bird.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town on the Romantic Road (Romantische Strasse) in Bavaria, Germany. It is known for its medieval center (Altstadt), seemingly untouched by the passage of time, encircled by the undamaged 14th century town wall. In the Middle Ages, Rothenburg was a free imperial city. Now Rothenburg is a small town and a big tourist attraction. The Röderbogen Arch, with the clock tower, dates back to the 12th century and was part of the town's first fortifications, later replaced by the outer ring wall.

Eurasian blue tits, usually resident and non-migratory birds, are widespread and a common resident breeder throughout temperate and subarctic Europe and the western Palearctic in deciduous or mixed woodlands with a high proportion of oak. They usually nest in tree holes, although they easily adapt to nest boxes where necessary. Their main rival for nests and in the search for food is the larger and more common great tit.

The Eurasian blue tit prefers insects and spiders for its diet. Outside the breeding season, they also eat seeds and other vegetable-based foods. The birds are famed for their skill, as they can cling to the outermost branches and hang upside down when looking for food.

Lübeck - the former capital and Queen City of the Hanseatic League - was founded in the 12th century and prospered until the 16th century as the major trading centre for northern Europe. It has remained a centre for maritime commerce to this day, particularly with the Nordic countries. Despite the damage it suffered during the Second World War, the basic structure of the old city, consisting mainly of 15th- and 16th-century patrician residences, public monuments (the famous Holstentor brick gate), churches and salt storehouses, remains unaltered.

Lübeck is the second largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany, and one of the major ports of Germany.Because of its Brick Gothic architectural heritage it was placed on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2009.

Ulu Mosque is the largest mosque in the Netherlands.

Construction began in 2009 and the building was finished in 2015.

The mosque's exterior was designed by Dutch architect Ishak Önen.

Red bricks were a deliberate choice to ensure the building complements the Dutch architectural style and harmonizes with its surroundings.

The interior was designed by Semih Irteş, an Istanbul-based architect and artist known for his traditional style.

This ground floor is for men, 2 upper floors are for women. The building is suitable for 1600 visitors.

"You made me feel so unwanted

Made the decision to leave you behind

You say you've changed and you're sorry

But I don't wanna know

So give me something I can hold

That I can trust and call my own

That won't run out and leave me cold

Give me something that won't tell me lies

Won't leave me hanging out to dry

Won't fuck me over, make me cry

Save your love and buy me diamonds

Save your love and buy me diamonds"

I was at the riparian preserve yesterday and there were a few photographers standing around (all socially distanced, of course) and one guy points to theses little shore birds and asks what they are. I said, "those are least sandpipers". There was a long pause and then the guy asks, "So what's the advantage of leasing a sandpiper vs. buying one? 😂" Funny guy
