Small shop just outside the temple Taishakuten in Shibamata, Tokyo. Where you can buy all sorts of things: calendars (at least according to the sign hanging by the man's legs), manekineko (beckoning cats), incense. And porcelain snakes (next to the cats). That is due to that temple next door. Taishakuten's main deity is Indra - reshaped in a Buddhist mould - and he is famous for having killed a fearsome snake demon!

Another of the beautiful birds I saw in Singapore. I thought this was a Little Spider hunter but I don't think it's beak is long enough. Other possibility is a female Sunbird but I just can't pin this ID down.

Perhaps someone out there may know!

I am finally getting around to doing my photobook for my trip to Singapore. Almost a year ago. I realise there were quite a few images I never got around to posting so may offer some up over the next few days.

It also made me remember how much I loved that trip. I went with my best friend of 50 years who is also a nature and bird lover and she just let me have the whole time dedicated to photography.

A rare, somewhat selfish but amazing experience.

I quickly snapped this image. I wish I was better at asking people if I could take their image. If I'm feeling brave I sometimes do but that's not often. After all, what is the worst that could happen?

Montenegro is a country in Eastern Europe bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. It used to be a part of Yugoslavia. The capital is Podgorica. The name Montenegro is Italian and means Black mountain. Montenegro was an independent princedom between 1878 and 1910 and an independent kingdom until 1918. That year Montenegro became part of Yugoslavia. In 2003 Yugoslavia was transformed into the new country of Serbia and Montenegro, but this fell apart in 2006 when both countries went their separate ways. Montenegro is therefore the youngest country in Europe. Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but it is a member of NATO. Despite the fact that Montenegro is not yet an EU Member State, people do pay with the euro. Montenegro may be small, but this beautiful nation has a huge array of natural and man-made wonders. Once overlooked in favor of more famous Mediterranean countries, Montenegro is quickly gaining a reputation as a great place to travel. It's easy to see why. The mountainous hinterland is home to deep gorges, flowing rivers, glacial lakes and old-growth forests, popular for adventure activities. In 1688, the construction of the Catholic Church in Herceg Novi began, which upon completion was dedicated to St. Jerome, the protector of the city by the Archbishop. The church we see today was built in 1856 and is located in the Old Town, on Mića Pavlović Square. It was built on the site of an old Catholic church that was demolished in the 19th century. On the main altar of the church is the icon of the Mother of God with all the saints. Next to the church stands it's bell tower on Mica Pavlovica Square. Tourists have the opportunity to enter organized this tower, and from the top discover a remarkable view of the oldest city core.

Tucked away a peaceful little square in the lower quarter of the old town Herceg Novi, the Church of St. Jerome was built in the mid-19th century on the place as the original 17th century Catholic church, also dedicated to the same St Jerome, who is venerated by both Catholic and Orthodox Christians. The square offers lovely views of the bay, as well as a collection of ancient anchors and cannons set along the southern wall. Het plein biedt een prachtig uitzicht op de baai, evenals een verzameling oude ankers en kanonnen langs de zuidelijke muur. The Saint Archangel Michael church or Sveti Arhangel Mihajlo is situated in the center of the old town of Herceg Novi, on the square Belavista. It was built at the beginning of the XIX century. The interior and the exterior of the church associate us to the mixture of styles which contain Byzantine, Roman – gothic and Islamite elements.

The centrally located Saint Michael Archangel Church in Herceg Novi is a fine reflection of the region's diverse and surprisingly tolerant spirit. The church is located in the center of the old town of Herceg Novi on Belavista square. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century. The interior and exterior of the church associate us with the mixture of styles that includes Byzantine, Roman-Gothic and Islamic elements. It is built of stone from Korčula and the interior is decorated with iconostasis of white Italian marble, as well as icons made by the Czech Franjo Cigler. The old church was demolished by the Turks. Construction of the church began in 1883 and was completed in 1911 when the church was renovated. A great history background and landmark in the center of town. This square is a must visit from where you can experience a beautiful view of Boka, which they knew loved kings and poets.
