This vintage fire engine hasn't had a call in years, being left to rust and decay away on an abandoned Illinois farm. I've got to think this beauty could be restored and would make a great show or museum piece somewhere...

Herstellung

Der Vorgang ähnelt dem Siebdruck. Jedoch wird hier statt Farbe eine Ätzpaste aufgetragen, die Teile des Gewebes durch Ätzen zerstört. Dieser Vorgang wird als ausbrennen bezeichnet.

Das Grundgewebe ist grundsätzlich gemischt aus mindestens zwei verschiedenen Faserstoffen. Ein Faserstoff (meist synthetisch wie z. B. Polyester) wird durch die Ätzpaste nicht beschädigt. Der andere (meist zellulosische wie beispielsweise Baumwolle, Leinen, Viskose) wird beim Ätzen entfernt. Darum entsteht an der ausgebrannten Stelle kein Loch, sondern ein transparenterer Bereich.

Neben Geweben können auch Gewirke ausgebrannt werden. Voraussetzung ist auch hier, dass zwei verschiedene Materialien verarbeitet werden müssen.

Devoré (also called burnout) is a fabric technique particularly used on velvets, where a mixed-fibre material undergoes a chemical process to dissolve the cellulose fibers to create a semi-transparent pattern against more solidly woven fabric. The same technique can also be applied to textiles other than velvet, such as lace or the fabrics in burnout t-shirts.[1]

Devoré comes from the French verb dévorer, meaning literally to devour.

I took a very short, miserably hot local bike ride this morning and found this poor Edsel which had experienced even more heat than I had.

Watch this, something stunning and remarkable happened while I was taking northern lights photos in sequence for this time lapse.

There was a bright flash of an apparent target in the upper left of the frame. Almost instantly two aircraft in tandem appeared to take out the target, then you see the vapor trail of that target's burnout...

I have heard nothing on the news about this, so I can only conclude this is a military night training exercise from nearby military bases.

I have uploaded it in twice in rapid sequence, because it happens so quickly.

The wildfire smoke took a lot of color, but at sunset some of it came back in the form of this peachy sunset. I definitely took some liberties with the saturation, because with wildfire smoke, the alternative is gray everything!
