"Y la demás gente se quedó en esta con Andrés de Viedma todo el invierno, y después todo un verano, aguardando a ver si venía Pedro Sarmiento. Y viendo que había pasado tanto tiempo y no venía, e iba entrando otro invierno, y que toda la gente se iba muriendo de hambre, acordaron hacer dos barcas; y hechas, se embarcaron en ellas cincuenta hombres, que habían quedado vivos de la segunda población, con el capitán Viedma y el capitán Juan Suárez y el fraile francisco, que se llamaba Fray Antonio, que no se acuerda del sobrenombre, y cinco mujeres españolas. Y habiendo navegado seis leguas por el Estrecho, dieron en la Punta de Santa Brígida en unos arrecifes, y se perdió allí una barca. Y el haberse perdido fue por ir sin marineros y no por temporal que tuviesen, y se salvó la gente, con que se desembarcó en tierra toda la que había ido en ambas barcas. Y considerado por el capitán que no tenían comodidad para ir por la mar, por no caber la gente en la otra barca y por los inconvenientes que se iban ofreciendo, y en particular que el invierno iba entrando con gran fuerza y no tenían bastimentos, repartió la gente para que mariscasen en la costa. Y los capitanes Viedma y Suárez se volvieron en la barca con el fraile y veinte soldados a la segunda población, que había dejado ya desamparada. Y este declarante, y otros treinta hombres con él y cinco mujeres, se quedaron en el paraje donde los dejó Viedma, y anduvieron por allí todo el invierno mariscando, y de noche se recogían en los buhíos que hacían, estando divididos de cuatro en cuatro, o tres personas, en diferentes partes de la costa para poderse sustentar. Y yendo ya reconociendo el verano, les envió a llamar de la población el capitán Viedma, y de gente que había dejado con este declarante y la que había llevado consigo se juntaron por todos quince hombres y tres mujeres, porque todos los demás se habían muerto de hambre y enfermedades que les sobrevinieron por la aspereza de la tierra y esterilidad de ella, y acordaron salir de aquel lugar e ir a la primera población. Y fueron caminando con este intento por tierra hasta pasar la primera angostura del Estrecho, que es la Punta de San Jerónimo; y por el camino donde iban pasando hallaban muchos cuerpos muertos, que eran de los españoles que el capitán Viedma despachó de la segunda población..."
Declaración que de orden del Virrey del Perú don Francisco de Borja, Príncipe de Esquilache, hizo ante escribano Tomé Hernández, de lo sucedido en dos poblaciones fundadas en el Estrecho de Magallanes por Sarmiento de Gamboa (Perú, 1616).
Los hechos ocurrieron entre 1584-1587.

We went to Legaspi City for a wedding shoot in Misibis Bay Island Resort, last January 8, 2011. On our way to Legaspi, we stopped a lot to take some photos. The whole trip started when we left Manila at January 7 and returned on the 13th.
These photos document the 6th day of our 7 day adventure!
After a very dismal evening spent in Hotel Venezia, we woke up to a good breakfast! Good enought to start our day!
Off we head towards Naga, but this time passing counter clockwise Mayon Volcano, via Tabaco! Given more time I would like to have passed by Buhi lake, home of the worlds smallest commercial fish! The highway was long and empty! We passed through mountains and along the way saw many local kids who looked like they were on their way to, and from, school, and also a lot of kids who looked like they didn't belong to any school! www.manilatimes.net/index.php/opinion/columnist/1176-worl...
Before reaching the mountain hiway, we passed by the once famous Tiwi Hot Springs, located in the town of Tiwi. Today the spring pools are still existing, but not anymore heated, because of the geothermal plant nearby that uses the heat energy for creating electricity.
Somewhere around cloud height, we asked a local for a photo, and he demanded a ridiculously high price. We finally gave him only P50.00, but this woman suddenly came from out of nowhere and started begging for money, actually more like demanding us to give her P150.00!
The route was very scenic, with the ocean on our right, with large waves and strong winds! The drive was very smooth and easy, with hardly any cars or vehicles using the highway.
We arrived Naga and decided to pass by their famous cathedral. I can't seem to find the name on the web so I have no idea which church or cathedral we went to. We also accidentally found a small and really really old-looking church that we were able to photograph on the outside. It's made of bricks. I would appreciate if anyone can give me the name of these two churches.
We had a quick lunch, or snack, then headed towards Daet through the most beautiful hiway I've even seen in our country! The trees were beautiful, the road was beautiful, the scenes were beautiful, everything was beautiful!
Arriving Daet, we were faced with a problem, a place to stay. After driving to far distances reaching over 20 kilometers from Daet for an appropriate resort, a kind security guard told us about Catherine's Resort in Bagasbas, near the airport, and only 3 kilometers from the city. So far, Catherine's Resort is the second best place to rest in this trip, but the best resort so far! A real bargain at around P2,400 a night, with breakfast for two, and the food they serve is EXQUISITE!
