Well we all know what happens when we get our hands on bubble wrap!

Happy National Bubble Warp Day

2x macro of some bubble wrap backlit with a blue LED.

For the Toy Sunday group...

This image has officially creeped me out. The more I stare at it, the more little scary faces appear in the bubbles. I've seen a frog, alien, fox, fat man sleeping, opossum, a man yelling, an eagles face, a monkey, and a large mouthed fish. Oh geez, maybe I just need my new glasses...oh wait!!...I don't have my glasses on....reminder to self - put on glasses :)))

This is a photo of a piece of bubble wrap, and light and shadow on the wall.

91101 waits departure time at London Kings Cross with 1D32 20:33 London Kings Cross - Leeds on the evening of the 21st April 2023

Nice to see the Network Rail Nazi gestapo officers were on duty at Kings Cross last night & despite them being ever so busy they found the time in their busy schedule to come & hassle me for using a tripod. No trains were in platforms 0 & 1, no one else on the platform & I'm well behind (in this instance) the yellow tactile paving slabs. Yet apparently my tripod was a danger to myself, the non existent crowds on the platform & the railway in general. I shake my head in disbelief at these cretins, Network Rail & at this H&S obsessed country we've become. Also according to these Nazi's, tripods are banned from Kings Cross & from all stations up & down the country. An argument ensued & in the end I firmly but politely told them I don't care what you say you won't be stopping me. Thankfully I'd already got what I wanted anyway. God only knows how these arseholes would have coped with the crowds, cameras, flashes & tripods when 55022 arrived back in January 1982 & just like last night I'd wager no one got injured or died. Bubblewrap Britain in 2023, it really is depressing.

It's scary out there. But I'm determined to explore.

I've got another exhibition coming up here in Cambridge. I'm going to swallow a few bravery pills and attempt to make it more feisty.

Scary though.

I like being in my own little bubble... but I guess you only learn by being brave...

Woot!?

This is a portrait I have had in my mind for a few weeks. As usual it didn't evolve quite the way I imagined, but at some point I might revisit...

Anyway! Since I last uploaded, we made it back from our 3 weeks in London which was shamaze. To begin with, the first week well and truly landed in the area of anti-climax, which was to be expected. I guess you can't go from full-on adventure mode to home time in one move and not hit a come-down. But other than that, energies have been focused into Christmas! Can you believe it because I certainly can't, I have lost all grasp on which day of the week it is combined with where we are in the month. I have taken on a personal challenge to hand-make all my gifts this year which is proving to be a good challenge :)

On Friday I went into Chester to meet up with Sarah. We have been chatting most of the year online and so we took the opportunity to eat eggs and drink coffee before diaries get cluttered. It was so good to just talk and think about wider thoughts, Sarah is one of those inspirational discerning people who can attain on a professional level yet maintain her own identity and integrity which is a rare skill especially for women in the workplace.

Following there, I went to see Hannah who was hanging her artwork for her exhibition that night. Given the time in relation to how long she had before the exhibition opened... I stayed on to help her hang everything and get a bit more sorted out. Later on in the day I went with her to pick her children up from school and take Lily and Florence to after-school friends. I was chatting to the girls in the car on the way there and they were telling me about their day. They had done numeracy which was (apparently) boring, but they had written part of a story they were reading called Leon and the Place Between. What interested me was the part Lily explained: "Leon is a boy who loves magic and volunteers to be an assistant to a magician called Abdul Kazam, he climbs into the box and goes to the place between here and there." I asked Lily "What does that mean? What is the place between here and there?" She said "The place where magic happens".

I love that idea! I've heard of magic happening outside the comfort zone, but actually, this gives room to the idea that inbetween where we are now and where we are getting to, magic (or creativity or possibility) is possible!

That is exactly how I feel right here today, that although I am at a bit of a life-crossroads, that in-between where I will inevitably arrive at and my current position, so many unique opportunities and experiences have been made available to me.

This is what I was thinking about when I made this image, the idea of spilling out of a box and the magic of possibility :)

I'm shooting a series of photos, analogic and digital, of Jenny, from Germany.

She is great to work with. Quite photogenic. it's a shame she's not a model.

I found this picture of me and Gabriel taken a few days after I first got him. It was stashed away in a folder I forgot I even had! I can't believe I've had him for just over a year already! Time really does fly! I do get kinda upset looking at pictures of my dolls, as I know they are bald, naked, wrapped up in bubblewrap and currently stored in boxes back home in Ireland. I know it's silly to get so overly emotional over lumps of resin, after all it's not like they can feel anything. But it's not just the dolls, it's the wonderful memories attached to the dolls. I miss them like crazy!!! (esp Hayden and Gabriel) :(

Holiday by the sea is over, TK455 and TK479 are back to work. And they're busy.

That isn't guilt - she's just sad the fun has come to an end, after dispatching every popper in the bubble wrap.

Her work here is done.

"Bubble Wrap Girl" makes her dramatic debut at Dragon*Con 2001. According to eyewitnesses, this was her first convention ever.

Although everyone referred to her as "Bubble Wrap Girl," the "bubble wrap" around her breasts was actually the keyboard membrane from a laptop computer. Similarly, her "panties" were made from 40-pin ATA hard drive ribbon cables, clasped in front with either a CPU or a CPU socket.

Attentive viewers may notice that she returned in later years with somewhat more substantial outfits and costumes, such as Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell.

Dave pushed the trigger =D

The light was so bad the day I took this photo, 16 December 2014. My photos of this beautiful male Merlin were mostly very blurred and had to be deleted. Thought I might be able to rescue this shot and when I had done all I knew how to do to it, I quickly tried a few effects. I kind of like this one and it does make the image sharper and emphasizes the puffed up feathers.

On 16 December 2014, it was the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count for the town of High River. This town is SE of Calgary, roughly half an hour's drive from the southern edge of Calgary. My small group travelled in two cars, 8 people in total, and we covered the SE quadrant of the Count circle.

Below, I will add the report compiled by our leader, Gus Yaki. As usual, there were several of these sightings that I, myself, did not see. I ended up with poor photos of most of the things that I did see - the day was absolutely beautiful, but the light was even worse than I had realized. The amazing hoar frost, that covered everything, surprisingly lasted pretty well the whole day - usually, it lasts only a very short time. So, even though the light wasn't good for photos, the hoar frost beauty stayed with us all day long - breathtaking. For our drive down to High River, we had fog which, in patches, was quite thick. Wondered if we would see anything at all through the fog when we reached our area, ha. It was cold and damp, as well as foggy. In addition to that, some of the birds, such as the three Snowy Owls (I only saw two of them) were SO far away, there was no chance for photos except just one for the record. By the end of the day, only 35 species were seen in the total for the complete Count circle.

Of course, as always happens, I just had to take photos of anything else that caught my eye, including several barns, cloud formations, farm cats, an old truck, and so on.

At another stop, we were looking in the bushes/shrubs at the edge of a different farm, where a Northern Saw-whet Owl had been sighted last Christmas Count. No luck with an owl, but one of the birders spotted this male Merlin very high up on a power pole. A short while later, it was spotted just down the road, perched on this fence post. Such a beautiful bird - but such lousy light!

We had finished our count by 5:00 pm, by which time it was, of course, completely dark. A few of us stayed for the delicious pot luck supper, mainly provided by the generous birding people down in High River. Lorrie and John gave a slide show of their recent trip to Africa. So many great shots of beautiful bird species that I have never seen. Thanks, Lorrie and John, for spending time going through all your slides at home and choosing a lovely selection for us. Many thanks, too, for driving Shirley and myself all day long!

I bet you don't see this everyday. My hair in colorful bubble wrap curlers? How fun! I'm wearing a shirt and tie at Carmen's beauty salon.

Things get a little weird around here this time of year...

Working on plastic bag space suits and can’t find a glue that works... long story short I learned that my food-saver vacuum sealer will seal regular plastic bags and bubble wrap too! Trying to design patterns that only contain straight “seams.”

I was fascinated to see how the edges of the bubble wrap picked up tiny highlights!!

f5. Two bubblewrap softened flashes

This was a while ago but I loved the surreal effect of what I think was bubble wrap on the mock Gothic stone of the "castle".

Incidentally this was the location for a photography program about photographing events and it featured ex-students form my sisters old school... Hmmmm. That's a pretty trivial connection huh?
