In 1958 inventors Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes were attempting to create a three-dimensional plastic wallpaper. Although the idea was a failure, they found that what they did make could be used as packing material. POP!

Take a slice of Blue Paper

add a pinch of White Cotton Ball

stir in a Red Picket Fence

blend with Green Bubble Wrap

and Garner with Yellow Plastic Rubber Duckies

and wa LA!

You have One Traumatized baby Plastic Rubber Ducky floating on a lake under a beautiful sky behind his Mama who seems to have a GIANT plastic strip coming from her rear end and attacking him.

You decide...

Try and pop it large on black! :)

If you want to know what it really is, see here!

Busy day teaching two classes on macro photography out at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. This photo was a result of one of the demonstrations that I gave during the class on focus stacking.

I used bubblewrap lit by a lume cube to create the background.

Macro Mondays (9.14.09): "Transparency". The clear choice for me was the ever addictive bubble-wrap. And yes, it was all I could do to get the above shot off before squeezing their little heads into a crescendo of true pop music.

Honey and oatmeal with lemongrass essential oil, made in my kitchen using as many natural local products as possible.

I've used local spring water which is crystal clear and tastes wonderful and also local honey. I know quite a few people with sensitive skins and hopefully this will be a very gentle exfoliating soap.

I always enjoyed the sciences at school and college so it was good to be experimenting again. The bars have to cure for over a month, and I can hardly wait to use some - they smell delicious.

Back to putting the string of lights into a container...

I was fascinated to see how the edges of the bubble wrap picked up tiny highlights!

Continuing with the miniture theme. I have a few more ideas I want to try before I move on. By the way, Legos sink! But if you stuff the hull with bubble wrap, problem solved!

One of the images I wanted to shoot for We're Here! and Strobist is this one. All too often photographers think they need expensive lighting equipment to get wonderful results in the studio. They are wrong. Light is Light. Expensive lighting equipment gives convenience not better results. It is far better to learn the principles of lighting than to dump a bunch of money into lighting equipment.

The principles of lighting are available on the Strobist blog for free. And you can even go cheaper than David Hobdy. You just need a bit of creativity and a sharp eye. This portrait was taken with less than $40 in lighting gear. Truth is, with a little searching and luck, I could have gone even cheaper. A word of caution.... Be aware of trigger voltages of any vintage speedlight you connect directly to a modern digital camera. Here is a web page that explains and lists the various voltages.

Vivitar 283 with VP-1 - $32 (ebay)

Vivitar 283 with VP-1 - Free (Gift from a retiring photographer, truth is, I could have used one speedlight and just opened the aperture more)

Vivitar 252 - $4 at garage sale

Foam core panel - $3 (Wal-Mart)

Styrofoam box - Free from saltwater fish store

Light stand - Come on, just tape the thing to a ladder in the garage.

Oh, and the portrait was taken with a well worn Nikon D2X. I did have a great lens on the camera, the Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S, but it is obsolete as well. The rig was on top of a Bogen 3051 tripod with a Manfrotto 3030 head.

Photo taken by below (???), on the middle (between lots of cars ignoring us !) of Champs Elysees avenue, the day of our 2 years together (yep, *we* are very young!)

Using the March Red Velvet Kit ! I so love the Wonder Years line ! And the planet is a cellphone accessory that was offered (with baloons and yummy candies, which we have already eaten !) by a young man who advertised the opening of a new store called "Saturn" ! Nothing gets lost, everything is transformed ! ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Traduction....

I don't paint these days, but keep my art supplies just in case I decide to do it again.

Used for packing fragile items.

There are times in my life when my brain plays tricky games on me.I only seem to think negative and I play only the worst senarios in my head. It's like having panic attacks and no matter what I do I can't be positive. It's so weird and I try all day long to smile and be me and something just clicks and everything goes to waste.

This capture represents how much I try not to hear all those thoughts full of fears and sadness every day.

If you have ever felt that even for a while,I know how you feel.Stay strong.I am always trying.

Day 8 - Okay, I don't which people really celebrate these odd holidays but darn it all if I'm not going to use this as a chance to be silly throughout this 365. So be prepared to see National Rubber Duckie Day and National Static Electricity Day because I'm a goofball and this is how crazy people roll and yes,I did in fact sit in a tub with tons of bubble wrap because I could. So there.

I bet you don't see this everyday. My hair in colorful bubble wrap curlers? How fun! I'm wearing a shirt and tie at Carmen's beauty salon.
