Still feeling a bit like I'm living out of a box, which is likely because I am. Or rather, several boxes. But almost there.

Kreuznach Pointar 45/2.8 V

Liberated from, I think a Braun Paxette.

10 Blade aperture controlled from the front of the lens. No filter threads or bayonet hood linkage. I assume it's derived from a more developed triplet/tessar design with some primitive coating, as it doesn't flare wildly. Nor does it bubble or swirl. Out of focus areas have a nice smooth non-busy circular bokeh. 45mm Focal length offers natural field of view and no distortion. A much more refined lens than the standard Staeble-Kata that came with the Paxette. Still has enough micro-contrast for modern full-frame sensors, even into harsh light.

Thank you eBay, you came through. Sackboys are really hard to get in Australia so eBay UK to the rescue. Got home from work tonight to find Sackboy all snuggled up in bubblewrap. He seemed a bit moody though, must be the jet lag.

Hooray, the Valentine’s decorations have arrived! And since they were well-packaged, they are in perfect condition!

Crazy Tuesday: Bubble wrap

Background wise this is the first of my Tomato seedlings which are Sweet Million F1 (cherry tomatoes) I shot everything in the greenhouse which has a nice diffuse lighting due to the cloud and bubblewrap thats in there for insulation. Then it was a case of setting the camera up on tripod, setting the olympus 60mm lens on 1:1, putting it in manual focus, focussing on the leaves, taking the shot then taking a shot of the stem in focus too and then blending the 2 in photoshop. The G3 doesn't focus stack unlike my Olympus EM1.

I think this picture is better seen large. On the other hand, the large version doesn't have all the links to the original pictures.

Week 7. "Ordinary into Extraordinary" for "Compositionally Challenged" group.

I've been lacking in inspiration recently on the photography front, but was determined to get some shots today. I switched to my 100mm Canon L Series macro lens this afternoon, and went on a hunt round the house for everyday objects.

The light bouncing off this bubble wrap caught my eye.

Flipped it to B&W in Photoshop and upped the contrast.

Not only is bubblewrap useful in packaging fragile items for storage or shipment, but for us Lego fans, it makes for great water scenes. Here, we see several Lego minifigures enjoying the 'water' with so many 'bubbles.'

Oh, what's that guy in the middle doing?

Simple. He's surfing the 'net.

Right, you needed a good groaner to start the week!

Day 246. I had more planned for this concept, but in the end I only had the energy for simple.

Second time around. This is a photo of a previous photo.

It began as Christmas lights reflecting on water in the marina. I used the "liquify" tool to swirl it and create an abstract, posted in 2011 here... flic.kr/p/hHua9h

Tonight I projected that image on my computer monitor and taped a piece of small bubble wrap in front of it. Using my 100mm macro lens, I captured this image.

Just having fun playing around!

Since January 1st 2010, I have been taking and uploading one square picture each day.

I like to linger in my comfort-zone, it's safe in there and I can't break. I spend most of my time looking out.

Olympus digital camera

One of the images I wanted to shoot for We're Here! and Strobist is this one. All too often photographers think they need expensive lighting equipment to get wonderful results in the studio. They are wrong. Light is Light. Expensive lighting equipment gives convenience not better results. It is far better to learn the principles of lighting than to dump a bunch of money into lighting equipment.

The principles of lighting are available on the Strobist blog for free. And you can even go cheaper than David Hobby. You just need a bit of creativity and a sharp eye. This portrait was taken with less than $40 in lighting gear. Truth is, with a little searching and luck, I could have gone even cheaper. A word of caution.... Be aware of trigger voltages of any vintage speedlight that you connect directly to a modern digital camera. Lack of this knowledge can be catastrophic. Here is a web page that explains and lists the various voltages.

Vivitar 283 with VP-1 - $32 (ebay)

Vivitar 283 with VP-1 - Free (Gift from a retiring photographer. Truth is, I could have used one speedlight and just opened the aperture more)

Vivitar 252 - $4 at garage sale

Foam core panel - $3 (Wal-Mart)

Styrofoam box - Free from saltwater fish store. A styrofoam ice chest could be substituted, and can be used to carry your gear.

Light stand - Come on, just tape the thing to a ladder in the garage.

Oh, and the portrait was taken with a well worn Nikon D2X. I did have a great lens on the camera, the Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S, but it is obsolete as well. The rig was on top of a Bogen 3051 tripod with a Manfrotto 3030 head.

Of note: Photographers like to refer to this lighting scheme as Rembrandt light, as though the old master invented it. He did not, and the tag is improper. Rembrandt used many different lighting techniques throughout his career and he followed no formulas. This scheme of lighting is properly referred to as 3/4 short lighting.

Hi. n ____ n

My school's keeping me awfully busy, but. I'm in 7th grade, I guess I could expect that. I am just so busy, I'm sorry for not writing with any of my lovely flickrfriends. ) : Oh, and I had the most creepy episode EVER today. I'll write tomorrow after school, so look at my photostream then. Lol, I'm sounding like a commercial. I managed to get one decent picture of my newest beauty, Juliet .. I hope, you love her as much as I do. n __ n

xoxo

your Vik.

What happened? :

Well, I was putting my little darling carefully down on a blanket, I had set already - so she didn't get dirty. And I was photographing Amie and Fleur at the same time (but I didn't get a good picture), and Fleur sat on some bubblewrap. :3 Well, it was dizzy and cold, so my hands were like shaking and all red. Suddenly a huge piece of bread comes flying from the left and hits Fleurs hair, so she falls, and I got seeds in my hair and all. But the worst thing was, that I couldn't see, WHO threw it at me, 'cause it WAS totally dizzy. So I took my girls and my things and I ran so quick as I could, home. Omg, I was so afraid. - There lives three alcoholics near by my house.. ): But anyway. :3

Bubble-wrapped painting ready for next weekend's exhibition

View On Black

I spent 5 hours on this shoot (including 2 hours to make the wings using bubble wrap).

enjoy :)

This is the last of my painting by light macros that I took a couple of weeks ago.

The ocean of diamonds is actually a sheet of folded bubble wrap. the dolphin like design inside the crystal was made by painting with a maglight in total darkness.

Very close friends of mine are fighting with mental illness and I have decided to create images based on their experiences. I feel like mental illness and depression is sort of “romanticized” on social media to the point where it is almost a positive, interesting, desirable thing to have which I don’t think is right at all. The reason I often use mental illness as a theme in my work is that I would like to show how serious it is, and to encourage people not to be afraid asking for help.

"But all bubbles have a way of bursting or being deflated in the end." Barry Gibb

In my case the always lacking bodies and my wish to have Prudence out anyways.

Solved with hijacking a wine glass, glueing a S-Hook to the bottom to hook in the strings whilst using my spare Unoa torso together with my MNF neckpiece.

Also bubblewrap, lace and roses. I also swear I'm not drunk.

But hey, at least I'm currently paying off Phineas' body and after that I'll tackle Pru's xD

Dude, put down your phone and smile...

A few days ago we celebrated two years with Lysander. It's hard to believe it was that long ago that I gently lifted his dirty, scarred carcass from the bubblewrap, only to have him fall to pieces and discover that he had come explosively unstrung in transit... it's been that long and he still has "elastic" that might as well be nylon rope and a couple of bent-up paperclips serving as s-hooks.

Love you, Ly, even if I can't seem to get your right-side thighball unstuck!
