I recently bought this 'Tweed Indeed' Silkstone girl from Quvani. Despite Tiina's excellent packing (in bubblewrap inside a large box) the dreaded post office had managed to give the box such a pounding that my lovely girl's head had snapped off. I was SO disappointed!
Fortunately my hubs reminded me why I keep him, & set about repairing her.
The neck knob had snapped off at the base of the arrowhead - just where it joins the round part that goes inside the neck.
First, he had to fiddle the arrowhead out of the head (not easy when there's nothing to get hold of!) He decided to leave the other part in the neck & work in situ. He took the finest drill bit he had (see pic) & carefully - using magnifying glasses - drilled down into the neck part to make a 6mm deep hole. Then - even more difficult - he held the arrowhead steady in a vice & drilled up into it, making a similar hole. Then he found a small stainless steel pin that was a 'push fit' & inserted it into both holes, pushing the 2 parts together. He added a dribble of superglue to make sure.
We set her aside (in a cat-free place!) & left it to set for an hour before hubs carefully - being careful not to wrench the joint - pushed the head back onto the arrow part.
See result in the next photo......
This could be (and truly think it's) a note to self..

Post Box Portrait - 2010

A bit Lady Gaga inspired she's meant to look slightly like a doll ...with hair makeup and outfit by meee :)

I bet you don't see this everyday. My hair in colorful bubble wrap curlers? How fun! I'm wearing a shirt and tie at Carmen's beauty salon.
I try to keep one eye open most if not all of the time, but I fail. Often my eyes seem more open when they're closed.
A long journey arriving in America. To be exact N.W. Georgia. Here it is still summer heat and allergy season as well. I did have a horrible experience once I arrived in the local post
office. That place had to be a hundred years old. I arrived late Friday and could not be delivered. The night was long, dark and creepy. It was quite a hot , stuffy night and all I could hear were mice about hopping boxes, ripping open packages. I was quite frightened they would get to me. I've heard they can chew right through anything they want to get into. All I knew was Ukraine and never once thought I'd be wrapped in many layers of bubble wrap. It was somewhat see through, however, quite suffocating. It became early dawn when I hear a metal door go up... voices abound, trucks being started all awhile I sit and wait for my own departure. It was after a period of a few hours I found I was hopping on the truck of the most mean postal driver ever. I figured more than likely I would ride all day in a bumpity bump truck before arriving at my destination. Sure enough I was correct. My new home actually had no one there to sign for my delivery.. I screeched , "oh no." not another night in the post office.
Oh, and that it was as, I quickly became so depressed. I lay over another day which was the Lord's day and I figured there was reason for all of this. Sure enough one has to learn patience in their life for which I never have had . I learned to be content in my little box as Monday wouldn't have to be a meh kind of day. I would meet Cricket and my new home.
Here it is Monday, I'm forgotten. I just know I am to be at my home by now. As fate would have it, Cricket came looking for me when I was not delivered to her home as expected. She couldn't bear me staying another night in that old old post office.
I cannot tell you how very exhilarating it was for my box to finally be picked up to go to my new home.
The man at the service desk was grateful to hand me over. I know he couldn't have known just how grateful I was so didn't quite understand his kindness., none the less Cricket anxiously grabbed the box and toted off to her ride. I heard her say every good woman carries a knife. She immediately ripped into my box and unrolled and unrolled all the bubblewrap. Whew, I then took a deep breath . It was the most fresh breath ever. We quickly went straight home to begin our adventures. Did I say?, "I love America?" So glad to be here and share my adventures with you.
We're here with our magic cloths. Well I tried the technique, but it was rainy and gray today, so I didn't get anything very interesting. I traded in my magic cloth for some magic bubble wrap to take this picture.
I think the magic cloth is best suited for times when there's a lot more dynamic range than I had to work with today. I imagine it would take a bit of practice and experience with the magic cloth to get the best results.
With a loving heart as the background, all that you attempt and all that you encounter will open and flow more easily. Loving kindness can be cultivated.
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!

Gannet pair bonding on their nest, I think hubby has just brought in some Bladderwrack to add to the nest or maybe he just likes 'popping' bubblewrap :0)
Behind them appears to be a potential Puffin burrow assuming they can get in past the Gannets
Touching the ripe seedpods of Impatiens glandulifera plants makes them explode. It's fun, kind of like popping bubblewrap blisters but requiring less effort.
This slow-motion video was shot at 240 frames per second.
Ginger: "Today, 27th January, is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, so we've wrapped Nobby in bubble wrap to show you how to wrap your precious items for posting."
Ted: "He ain't precious, well, not like THAT!"
Nobby: "I AM precious, you don't want me to get damaged or nuffink!"
I sold a photo to a collector, and have it protected in bubble wrap and waiting to be delivered.
My 52 week project for 2017: a photo each week with the Leica Sofort and a photo of the resulting print at the scene of the shooting.
Recently there was a shooting session held at my studio here in Austin, Texas. The studio, named ATX Photography & Rental studio, worked with Jessica Clark to build sets out of recycled materials, and she also designed outfits. Here you can see a bubble wrap backdrop and a newspaper made head piece. Blue, our model, was standing in for me while I tested lights.
In the background I put up too Lowel hot lights with colored gels to create some interesting texture with the colors. If you stood to the right side, the bubble wrap looked red, but if you stood to the left side the gel there looked purple. Because the "bubbles" are rounded, they reflected the color gel of the side you were standing most on, giving a color shift affect. Pretty neat.
From there, I had an off camera lighting setup in the front. A 20x30" softbox boomed above and firing down at a slight angle. From here, Blue could move backward and forward to create different looks being in the direct light, or standing off in a feathered light. All were fired with the Phottix remote transmitter/receivers. WIthout needing to move gear, we could have multiple colored backdrops and effects, very simply.
I love sessions like this because it's fun for everyone attending and we get to challenge some of the norms that you have to use expensive equipment and work in a more formal way.
Post processing was handled in Photoshop to add a little reduced contrast and blurring that I thought complimented the style.

My response to this challenge started (as these things often do) by a chance occurrence. I was sitting in my dining room (which also doubles as my office) drinking my morning cup of tea when the early morning light came spilling into the room, across a pile of packaging materials (cardboard, bubble wrap, paper, etc), causing bold shadows and crisp light. I grabbed my camera and started shooting. I used a method (I’m not giving all my secrets away) which builds multiple images in camera. [Note: 95% of these images content are created in camera, with a small amount of post production work; contrast, tone etc.] The results - www.flickr.com/photos/markrussell123/sets/72157650190598283
I then shot a set where I attempted to increase the complexity of the image:-

Finally, I deconstructed 40 large cardboard storage boxes and stacked them together to form a large rhythmical construction, which I first lit with an overhead tungsten light:-

Then lastly, I lit the structure from behind with a single LED light source:-

The multi layering of the structure being enhanced further by the multilayering technique I used in camera.

Matron was worried that I kept getting ill, so she decided to encase me in a hermetically sealed microbiologically sterile environment.
Yup.
At least... that was the original plan... but she only had some packaging materials lying around... so er.. yup... she improvised.
Anyway... it was going great guns, but then everyone started popping my suit... and now I fear I may well be exposed again to all that horribly contaminated air that all of you breathe.
Breathe... yes... that er...
Oh... here I go agai

We purchased a new printer this weekend and part of the packaging was this sheet of Bubble Wrap.
And yes I did Pop a few of these in case you were wondering.
Isn't that the best stress reliever ever??

So I got this HUGE roll of bubble wrap that didn't come in it's own dispenser box. After tripping over the box sitting in the middle of my work room for nearly a week, I realized I needed to do something with it, and FAST!!!
Voila!!!
It's now hanging from one of those over the door coat racks. The strap is from my camera bag till I can replace it with something else. The other hooks are holding my extra rolls of packing tape, and my roll of priority mail stickers.
I love it and it works great!!!

Yesterday, when I tried to open the back door, the doorknob came off in my hand. That can't be good! So, I removed all the remaining hardware, called the landlord, and inserted bubble wrap in the hole, to deter flying insects.
I liked the way the light filtered through my make-shift insect barrier, so I created a quick cell phone shot.

this is how school makes me feel right now. =\
SO, there's a story on how I got bubble wrap today. This guy in my grade asked his music teacher for it, and it was a HUGE roll of bubble wrap. I got a meter of bubble wrap to pop. :D

Take it easy for 3-4 days guys. You'll have lots of bubblewrap to fill the time.
And all you guys fortunate enough to go to Brickfair Virginia or New Jersey, keep an eye out for these guys and send me pictures!
The We're Here group members are finding artistic uses for bubble wrap today.
I think I shall keep some for use as a scarf during the winter as it is surprisingly warm under this wrapping.

2000 pieces
not completed, so not included in 2020 puzzle count
There's been a handful of times over the years that we've abandoned a jigsaw and consigned it to the charity shop; usually heaving a sigh of relief to see the back of it.
We started this puzzle at the beginning of October before we went on holiday, intending to finish it off when we returned. We knew it would be a tricky one, even Lars described the dark pieces as 'intimidating'.
After working at it pretty solidly for almost 4 weeks since our return from Rhodes, we had completed only just over the bottom half, so with heavy hearts we made the difficult decision to abandon it until sunnier days might make it less of a chore and more of a pleasure.
We very carefully placed the completed sections back in the box and bagged up the loose pieces in separate bags according to shape, to make life easier next time around. A 'wodge' of bubblewrap in the box should stop any smaller completed sections from moving about too much. It's back under the bed now, so 'onward and upward' as they say, and on to the next project.
I tried out the cereal box snoot and my bubblewrap diffuser (a strip of cardboard formed around the head of the vivitar- taped up and then 2 layers of bubblewrap stuck to the front of it :)
If you notice the snoot isn't making a very neat shape on the wall.. theres a bit of light spilling off at the RHS. I think I'll re-make another one. Although I like the way the snoot/diffuser combo works :)
With the diffuser on the strobe set to wide it makes a sort of quick and dirty shoot-thru umbrella result.
All shots shot at the same exposure and with the strobe set to 1/16th power
