The Mariendom, designed by the architect Gottfried Böhm in the style of brutalism, is the architectural highlight of my current hometown.

Water cascades over concrete aggregate blocks in the Active Pool at the Philip Johnson-designed Fort Worth Water Gardens in the south end of Downtown Fort Worth, Texas.

this is the last picture of the Perth series for now. I enjoyed the experiments with colourising b&w pictures. and I enjoyed working with the fully functional NIK software that DOX has taken over and updated.

SOBRE LA LEYENDA
Caronte es un genio del mundo infernal, hijo de Érebo y Nix.. Su misión es pasar las almas, a través de los pantanos del Aqueronte, hasta la orilla opuesta del río de los muertos; éstos, en pago, deben darle un óbolo. De ahí la costumbre de introducir una moneda en la boca del cadáver en el momento de enterrarlo. Aquellos que no podían pagar tenían que vagar cien años por las riberas del Aqueronte, hasta que Caronte accedía a portearlos sin cobrar.
Se representa a Caronte como un viejo muy feo, de barba gris e hirsuta, vestido de harapos yen ocasiones con un sombrero redondo.
Conduce la barca fúnebre, pero no rema; de ello se encargan las mismas almas. Se muestra con ellas tiránico y brutal, como un verdadero subalterno. Cuando Heracles descendió a los Infiernos, obligó a Caronte a pasarlo en su barca, y como éste se negara, el héroe se apoderó de la percha y le propinó tal paliza que el otro no tuvo más remedio que obedecer. Por otra parte, Caronte fue castigado luego por haber permitido que un viviente penetrase en el reino de los muertos; por ello estuvo un año encadenado.
Otros dos mortales consiguieron cruzar el Aqueronte (Estigia según Virgilio). Uno fue Orfeo, quien con sus cantos encantó a Caronte y a Cerbero para rescatar a su amada, Eurídice, del inframundo. La otra fue Psique, que por órdenes de Afrodita tuvo que bajar al infierno en busca de un frasco de agua de Juvencia.
En las pinturas de las tumbas etruscas, Caronte aparece como un demonio alado, con la cabellera entremezclada de serpientes y llevando un mazo en la mano. Ello hace suponer que el Caronte etrusco es en realidad el “genio de la muerte”, el que mata al moribundo y lo arrastra al mundo subterráneo.
This is Tahoma creek, on this day it's mild mannered and beautiful as it dances and drops it's way off of the mountain, but as you can see by the erosion taking place on Rampart and Emerald Ridges, the stand of trees of a lost forest and the other trees tossed aside it can have it's bad days like the one when it helped to wipe out Sunshine Point Campground in 2006. It does get some amazing views on it's short ride to the Nisqually river below.
