My garage is filling with brooders. There are only birds in two of them, for now.

A low key shot of my girlfriend while she was reading on the couch.

One minute after this picture was taken, he flew off and was promptly grabbed and eaten by a passing robin.

Same brood found on 10 May (www.flickr.com/photos/34486353@N07/7189089992/in/set-7215...). It appeared that only the adult male was still around, protecting the brood.

Situated in St. Juliaan village at Vancouver Corner, the Brooding Soldier memorial is a 35ft-high statue of a Canadian soldier with bowed heads and hands resting on arms reversed. The memorial was carved from a single shaft of granite.

A plaque at the foot of the memorial reads "This column marks the battlefield where 18,000 Canadians on the British left withstood the first German gas attacks (from) the 22-25 April 1915. 2,000 fell and lie buried nearby."

A week after I first found this dove nest, I checked on it again. Still brooding with no signs of babies. The parent never budged so I did not get a look at the eggs.

Windows on opposite ends of the brooder house. If I were better at post-processing, or at thinking ahead for that matter, I would have better matched the exposure of these. But alas, I'm not, I don't and I didn't.

Kyle build this brooder out of lumber, cardboard and bookshelf backing, with 1/2" hardware cloth on the lid. We use a red heat lamp suspended over it, and divided it in half with another piece of cardboard.

those dark orange bits in the middle are bees in the making (aka brood) and the lighter cells around the edge are honey.

I did not have the right lens to catch this in detail, but here is a Cuckoo chick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuckoo_bird) being fed by a Cape Wagtail - Motacilla capensis. The Cuckoo lays it's eggs in another bird's nest and then those birds have to raise the young. - Brood parasitism. Taken in Pretoria, South Africa

Sometimes you must lose a few pounds and you must keep yourself not to overeat.

But the whole house smells of this blessed bread that you want to photograph and if you have a picture of it the water runs in your mouth.

The word brooding has two meanings, one relating to the care of the chicks, the other relating to one's mental disposition. This image seems to capture both meanings.

I love this one. He looks like he's sitting in a panel of a Sam Kieth comic book.

Een redelijk maaltijd op zich, met een paar mandarijnen na voor de vitaminen, Het was een van de broden die je kon kiezen.
