There is an old Holly farm in the area that has been sitting idle for years. Very close to this farm is this Holly tree with yellow berries. It is the first one I have ever seen. Unique, but perplexing, as well. Green Holly branches with red berries are part of the Christmas tradition. Deck the halls (cue Christmas carol music) and all that.
However, what does one do with yellow berries? Save them for St. Patrick’s day maybe? “Ah, yes, O’Malley, it be the wearin’ of the green with yellow accents! Get out your Holly berries me good man.” (No complaints, I know that isn’t a good Irish Brogue).

The Exeter store opened its doors for business in March 2018 and can be found on Catherine Street in the Cathedral Square, a stone’s throw away from one of England’s oldest and most beautiful Cathedrals. The store was built in 15th century and has been sympathetically refurbished to reflect this. With original dark wooden beams running throughout.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 14th of January is “shoes with laces”. These black and white 1920s style dress shoes were made for me some twenty years or more ago, for a roaring 20s fancy dress party, by the now defunct company Griffin of Melbourne, who specialised in 1920s and 1930s inspired couture clothing and shoes. They seemed to be the perfect fit for the theme! I do hope that you like my choice, and that this photograph makes you smile!
Near Titonka, Iowa
There is usually an interesting story that goes with these abandoned farms. Sometimes the farmer that now owns the land knows relatives to the old folks that raised a dozen kids here. Maybe they just don't want to tear down memories of their own family.
If you stand close to the front door, you may hear soft whispers in a Scandinavian or German accent. Depending on the area and county, the brogue can change to many different parts of Europe.
I know one thing for sure . . . they worked hard to survive and raise families in America. I know, I've heard many stories about my Danish Grandparents . . . and how tough it was with only six kids and one hundred & twenty acres!

Above Moffat Water. Obviously you don't go to the area around the Grey Mare's Tail and NOT take photos of the waterfall..... Ohh.... wait a sec.... um.... I didn't take any photos of the waterfall! I did get the lovely view down the Moffat Water valley however... (just before nearly chopping my fingers off catching the flying camera thing)

This is a pretty excellent example of a glaciated landscape, with the hanging valley waterfall (that I didn't take any photos of... As I said.... Just pretend it's there... on the right.... it's huge... you can't mis... never mind) in the Southern Uplands, running north east to south west.
It's a pretty excellent drive too, a fantastic road up this valley from Moffat to St Mary's Loch, you can loop off to Megget and Talla reservoirs and back into the Tweed Valley at Tweedsmuir, or carry to Selkirk in the Yarrow Valley!

Pound was remembering the three winters (1913-1916) he spent living with William Butler Yeats at Stone Cottage near the village of Coleman's Hatch in Sussex: specifically, he recalls sitting in the second floor of the cottage and hearing Yeats chant his poetry in the room below - the chimney carried the Irish poet's brogue from fireplace to fireplace. When Pound wrote these lines in the ''Pisan Cantos'' at the end of World War II, he looked back to those Stone Cottage years as an idyllic time ''before the world was given over to wars.''
