I was gliding over the majestic Niagara Falls when I noticed a poignant scene that I had to capture for you. A young high school couple, silhouetted against the shimmering river, sat facing each other on a shared tree log. The backdrop of the mighty falls added a dramatic touch to their quiet moment.
The figures, dark and indistinct, conveyed a sense of distance and introspection. The turbulent waters behind them seemed to wash away the turbulence that brought on the end of their relationship. The log, rough and natural, served as a simple stage for their emotional exchange.
This moment, set against the powerful and serene Niagara Falls, felt like a delicate balance between nature’s grandeur and human vulnerability. The scene captured the essence of a heartfelt goodbye, a bittersweet end to a chapter in their young lives.

From the riverbank at Vétheuil, Monet looked upstream to the houses at Lavacourt, situated on the opposite bank. In the distance, to the left, the church tower of Saint-Martin-la Garenne, outlined against the hills, can be discerned. This canvas was done at a slightly later date than the first views executed after the ice breakup. The jagged ice floes, given emphasis by impasto colours, are less numerous. They have also been thrown up onto the banks, as can be seen from the pile in the left foreground. The water has lost its devastating power, becoming calmer. The river, now navigable once more, witnessed the return of a barge with small figures on board. Monet’s boat-studio, moored on the Seine at that time, only sustained minor damage in the ice breakup.
Instead of the usual Fish & Chips on the Friday before Christmas, we decided to have our annual Christmas break up dinner at home instead of going out. So we had some bubbly, crab and lobster. YUM!
For those in other places, 'break up' refers to the end of work before the Holiday begins. Most businesses will have a break up party before everyone leaves on their holidays (and being summer time, people often start their vacations this time of year). Traditionally we splurge and go out for dinner but this year we stayed in and enjoyed some great seafood we wouldn't dream of ordering in a restaurant!
