The Snye doesn't quite break up in the same way as the water doesn't flow much in here, but you can see it starting to come apart. During this time the Clearwater was still floating large pieces of ice through in waves.

Pieces have broken off today from the south edge of our shore fast ice. Right at the shore, it is getting very rotten and more open water here and there.
For scale, I think it is about one mile out to the water.

Since the 5 lb bags shared one pallet, we had to break out the two types of flour onto separate pallets. Robert and I end up with an extra bundle (10 bags) of all-purpose flour, and short a bundle of whole wheat. Rod, who's been at FMCS since 1976, found our mistake almost immediately (fortunately not buried deep).
There were many forms of ice in the lake as it was leaving. These pieces were blown to the shore by north winds..
(In a series of hiking shots taken with a cell phone, since old forgetful me had the Canon, but left the SD card home.... this was the biggest size I could record.)

Each spring Alaska rivers ‘breakup,’ the local term for the yearly melting, shifting, breaking and ‘running’ of tons of river ice. Synthetic aperture radar data is useful for monitoring the river ice conditions. This view of the Yukon River, Alaska, was acquired May 12, 1997 by RADARSAT-1 using the standard beam 4 mode. Breakup is still underway as evidenced by ice still present in parts of the river channel. The tundra lakes in the area are also in various states of thaw.
