Ilana Spector said:

"The Bike Arch was made by Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector in Petaluma, CA. The bikes were collected from the dump, not the event. We used approximately 230-something bikes."

A campmate sent this photo via WiFi.

He said, "Howdy from the playa. 5 of us are here. Where are you? First tent up. See you guys soon. Wifi is open right now, but will probably close soon."

....This photo makes me want to leave work earlier than planned tomorrow.

I just love his expression.

All this time I thought it was called Roundatron.

"You feeling ok?"

"Not really"

"Want a piggy back ride?"

"YES!"

This doesn't capture it very well at all.

Help bring more of this guy's brilliant art to the playa! (he's in debt, and accepting donations)

This is a flame thrower on one of those "instant music club" art buses.

I hate the perimeter police, but I like that they catch yahoos sneaking in who don't pay.

Crude Awakenings burn.

Wish I were closer, but I like this shot.

Blinky-Go-Round

by Rob Darman

A kinetic light sculpture in the guise of a playground-style merry-go-round featured 2500watts of LED’s to delight, amuse and disorient. It is as much fun to watch from afar as it is to get on and ride.

This was a cylinder of thin slats hanging from above, each slat had a vertical row of LEDs.

You stood in it, and someone spun it for you. It was really neat, because once it started spinning, you were no longer in a confined space, but in a field of spinning light.

It was fantastic.

Even more fascinating was watching people inside, as they experienced it. The bright spinning lights seemed to remove dirt and imperfections. They became ethereal versions of themselves, with Buddha like expressions of wonderment.
