Visit to the Gilmore Car Museum at Hickory Corners, Michigan on June 6, 2015. This was the Saturday preceding the Sunday Grand Experience, the main annual Concours of the Classic Car Club of America, and dozens of outstanding cars were already on the grounds.

Usually, it's the brass that appoint themselves. Don't ever assume that the Victorian magnates didn't have some brass. If anything, the wealth ratio was more out of whack than now when buying congressmen is really a refined art. It's clear that we must empty Congress to move into the future. The Colorado Railroad Museum spit polished their brass for the occasion as they brought out their Victorian finery and coaches, trailed by the famous car, the Rico. This car is the Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW - Dangerous and Rapidly Growing Worse) coach #280. It was built after 1880 by Jackson & Sharp as an Open Platform Passenger Coach.

This lamp may not provide enough light to read your paperback but the original would probably start a fire if it came off the track. Ah well, we had to clear the mahogany and plush appointed Rico after three circuits of the loop. The Rico started out as mail car #17 and was part of William Henry Jackson's RGS photography/excursion train. I struggled with my DSLR less than Jackson did with his 24 inch wet plate camera. I bet it was ALWAYS in the way in the car! Eddie says he probably had to stash it in baggage. I just called Eddie and he was ripped too. Contagious or outrageous? Another on my bucket list checked offt.

Eddie and I spaced the Christmas Steamup this year but he found there was a "Black on Track" costume event upcoming. Boy am I a doofus for relying on Eduardo! He really wants to see the RSG #20's return for a steamup. That day will be shoulder to shoulder at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Outlanders could target Colorado trips with the expectations of hitting an event here in Golden. Someone will have already been here from your home town or country. These are the takes everyone is foaming at the mouth to see. See the CRRM's website fo upcoming events. This take is seldom scene! This makes a bold statement from the old passenger car.

Radical lighting again and I can't hold this kind of range but I think this is about as far as I can expect to go hand holding. here for the bold early steam, IMHO. Nothing like back light for smoke and steam. Here I am up close and personal in my crummy old winter coat with oily steam droplets landing on me. I found a great venue for this particular shot during steamup at the roundhouse. Steam is a winner in winter but the wind made it a blustery day. Are you ready for some steam? The first excursion was not quite full but is building on this blustery Saturday morning runby. The re-enactors will soon make a show.

I have mentioned that our first ride was on the Rico (rich), a venerable private car and coach that was Otto Mears' business car on the Rio Grand Southern. It is entirely clad with mahogany inside and has brass appointments. Kind of like Eddie. Only the best for Eddie's first ride. I suppose that the "Nomad" is still in use on the Durango & Silverton as a private car. This is about the only shot of the interior I snagged and it is pretty shaky.

The Colorado Railroad Museum spit polished their brass for the occasion as they brought out their Victorian finery and coaches, trailed by the famous car, the Rico. Rico, Colorado was a mining c amp on the route of Otto Mears' Rio Grande Southern. It was predominantly a sliver camp.No one can polish Eddie's brass.

Classic brass wall bracket with flambeau shade by www.deco-shades.com

I got this semi-antique light fixture from JF Pegan on eBay (eBay id jfpegan or they have a website, www.jfpegan.com). The one up-one down part is antique, but the wiring, glass shades, the hanging pole and maybe the canopy are new. I plan to get another, similar one to replace the other hall light.
