Braided like the strands

of complicated lives

The river carves its whims and will

in scars too deep to heal

I enjoy braided rivers. Rivers that go and do as they please, even when the water levels are low.

The Memphis Red Sox were an American Negro League baseball team that was active from 1920 to 1959. Originally named the Barber College Baseball Club, the team was initially owned and operated by Arthur P. Martin, a local Memphis barber. In the late 1920s the Martin brothers, all three Memphis doctors and businessmen, purchased the Red Sox. J. B. Martin, W. S. Martin, and B. B. Martin, would retain control of the club till its dissolution in 1959. The Red Sox played as members, at various times, of the Negro Southern League, Negro National League, and Negro American League. The team was never a titan of the Negro Leagues like wealthier teams in northern cities of the United States, but sound management lead to a continuous thirty-nine years of operation, a span that was exceeded by very few other teams. Following integration the team had five players that would eventually make the rosters of Major League Baseball teams and two players that were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

PETER:

A cry: Raaa-punnn-zelll

(Full of enthusiasm)

I can not believe it!

Scout...Scout.....You are absolutely right!!! I haven't been into the tower, but I'm sure Rapunzel lives there!

OLEG: Don't yell so loud, Peter. There are many people walking around here. What is it anyway.

PETER:

Scout said Rapunzel lives in the tower and he's right.

Just look up. Her braid hangs from the bell so the prince can climb up.

I haven't seen the prince yet, but I can be the prince for a while.

OLEG:

Peter....it's not Rapunzel's braid. It's a rope hanging from the bell. You can ring the bell with that.

PETER:

It's clearly a braid!

OLEG:

No, Peter, it's a rope. Rapunzel doesn't live in a lighthouse. If you don't want to believe me, you should ask Paddy.

OLEG: My allerbeste vriend Paddy:

I'm trying to make it clear to Peter that Rapunzel doesn't live in a lighthouse. He doesn't want to believe me.

I love you so much my beate friend!

Heeeeeel veel berenkusjes van Oleg

Many bear kisses from Oleg.

PETER:

Dear Scout.......Oleg doesn't want to believe that Rapunzel lives in the tower with her braid hanging there.

What do you think of it my best friend Scout

I wish you where here.

Ik wou dat je hier was

Veel berenkusjes van Peter

Here’s another natural abstract that I’ve taken during our Cessna flight over the river deltas near Skaftafell. It still amazes me that nature can create such beautiful colorful patterns and I think I’ll never get tired of such images. Again, if you have the chance to do such a flight, we can highly recommend it, and until then I hope you like this image! :-)

Braided rivers are rare, dynamic river systems characterized by multiple, shifting channels separated by small, temporary islands (braid bars) across a wide gravel bed. Primarily found in glaciated, mountainous regions like New Zealand, Alaska, and the Himalayas, they are shaped by high sediment loads and variable water flows. These braided plains are crucial biodiversity hotspots for birds, fish, and plants.

The Waimakariri River is one of the largest rivers in Canterbury, on the eastern coast of New Zealand's South Island. It flows for 151 kilometres (94 mi) in a generally southeastward direction from the Southern Alps across the Canterbury Plains to the Pacific Ocean.

The river rises on the eastern flanks of the Southern Alps, eight kilometres southwest of Arthur's Pass. For much of its upper reaches, the river is braided, with wide shingle beds. As the river approaches the Canterbury Plains, it passes through a belt of mountains, and is forced into a narrow canyon (the Waimakariri Gorge), before reverting to its braided form for its passage across the plains. It enters the Pacific north of Christchurch, near the town of Kaiapoi.

A little information infrastructure

Originally taken on my iPhone SE, but that information seems to have disappeared from the EXIF after editing with Snapseed.

VIA #2 slowly coasts over the crossing at Braid Street, and through the control point of the same name. The soft light of the late afternoon picks up the snow capped tops of Coquitlam Mountain, and Widgeon Peak, and the nose of the leading F40PH-3 alike. Rapidly overtaking the streamlined passenger train is greater Vancouver's other Blue, Grey, and Yellow form of passenger rail; the Skytrain.

My main reason, other than the lighting to shoot at this location was attempting to document the former Great Northern signal bridges on the New Westminster Sub. Three still stand, though for how long remains to be seen.

Thank you in advance to everyone who visits, comments and/or faves my picture. They are all immensely appreciated.

A river view in Denali National Forest.

Sunday morning barrel racing slack. I'm usually not there for this after a late Saturday night rodeo dance but this time I was. There was a smokey haze from the wildfires that provided a nice filter for photos. I was talking to her mother when she mentioned that she paid 80 grand for this horse. I whistled and told her If he was mine I'd bubble wrap him when we got home so he wouldn't get hurt, horses are accident prone. LOL She must have good insurance for him. Canon 7D

In case you were wondering what the heck a slack is.

Slack rodeo is for the "overflow" contestants who do calf roping, team roping, barrel racing and steer wrestling. It's everything that wouldn't quite fit in the highlighted rodeo performance, basically because long, repetitive events are not crowd pleasers.

Leather belt braids of strains of leather. Not real crazy but it is a little trying to buckle it after the Christmas snacks.
