Taken at Boulder:
Embleton Bay with some of the famous black boulders looking distinctly grey in their dry state.
These ankle breakers are usually photographed when wet and black, often with Dunstanburgh Castle as a backdrop.

The Dunstanburgh Castle end of Embleton Bay is famous for its black rounded boulders and a wonderful geological upthrust & folding which you can't see as it was just behind me!
Having a little fun - the bison (buffalo) look like huge boulders when presented in mono and some artistic sketch.
Happy Slider Sunday!
The idea was inspired by artist Bev Doolittle's - "Calling The Buffalo"

Gengið að Stórurð (Hrafnabjargaurð) frá Innri Hríshöfða sem er Njarðvíkurmeginn gangan er um 5,5 km hvora leið og tekur um 2,5 klst. One of East Iceland's most illustrious spots is the Stórurð. It consists of gigantic tuff boulders, charming meadows and attractive ponds. This wonderful scene can be reached in 2.5 hours on foot from Vatnsskarð pass.
We crossed the ridge from Putrid Pete's Peak toward Mount Defiance. Lots of travel up and around boulders.
A couple of the Koutu Boulders in the Hokianga Harbour, New Zealand. It was late in the afternoon and it was getting quite dark already.
I think I must have been at the wrong end of the beach as I only saw a handful of them.
The boulders are excellent examples of concretions : hardened nodules that form within sedimentary rocks. The word concretion comes from Latin and means “grown together”. They are composed of the same material as the surrounding rock and they form when a cementing mineral binds grains of sediment into a cohesive mass. It has been estimated that the largest of the boulders may have taken 5 million years to grow.
There are other examples of concretions around New Zealand, the most publicized being the Moeraki boulders south of Oamaru. The Concretions in the Hokianga are found on both sides of the Harbour, and are numerous beneath the surface of the surrounding land.
Nearing the top end of High Cup Gill the going gets tougher. What looked like a few rocks earlier on have become quite an obstacle course, the rocks were bigger than we first thought. Rob in picture for size.. he's 6 foot plus.
