Boulder Canyon on Lake Mead, Nevada. The reddish tinge to the rocks is made by deposits of iron that have rusted when they have been exposed to the elements.
Gengið að Stórurð (Hrafnabjargaurð) frá Innri Hríshöfða sem er Njarðvíkurmeginn gangan er um 5,5 km hvora leið og tekur um 2,5 klst. One of East Iceland's most illustrious spots is the Stórurð. It consists of gigantic tuff boulders, charming meadows and attractive ponds. This wonderful scene can be reached in 2.5 hours on foot from Vatnsskarð pass.
This this another photo close to the start of my walk in the Lakes just before lockdown 2, the light had just started to lift and the downpour that welcomed me to Borrowdale had started to ease with just enough to soften the scene. Since September when I considered the crazy crowds and covidiots had departed I had been making it a point of getting over here once a month and had promised myself a December walk once LD 2 had finished, however I’m in a tier 3 area which basically has the same restrictions as the LD so I may not be able to make it, but I’ve always got my photos and on the 1st December here is Boulder and birch.
The slippiest boulders I have seen with a pleasing sunrise in the background just as I decided to head back.
Late evening at Port Nanven, Cornwall.It was practically dark when I took this 220 second exposure and I got a good soaking from the drizzle and incoming tide too. But I do like the look of these rounded granite boulders and the rocky outcrops in this shot as they frame the twin promontories out in the ocean.

Another shot of Moeraki boulders during an overcast day. These natural rock formations appear from the group as wave action erodes the dirt away from around them.

First post of 2022 is a photo from early 2020…
Why not? There are a ton of shots I never get around to posting.
This was supposed to be a sunrise shot, however, due to Park Loop rd being one way and a bit of a google maps navigation error on my part…sunrise that day was at Otter Cliffs (another I have yet to post)
This shot was taken shortly after one of the best sunrises I’ve seen. I also remember getting around on those wet boulders much trickier then I expected.

On our way to Mission Beach in Queensland we made a detour to visit the Babinda Boulders. Well worth it.
Hoping it won't be too long before we can get out to play again....almost forgotten how to process a shot! Some snow in Tain today now really itching to get out...…….
A golden landscape view from Coot Lake to the Flatirons in Boulder Colorado. This is a timed stack of three hundred images to get this effect. This image is golden in more ways then one.
There was a golden retriever dog swimming in and out of my frame fetching a ball. You can see him on the left lower corner and also a few out further in the middle of the water. Hope you enjoy.

...and if you have read The Odyssey, you know about those rosy fingers of Dawn! Wish I could have captured the pink beauty that surrounded me this morning! (Joe changed the setting on my camera...and I didn't realize it until the scant few minutes that the beauty lasted this morning were over!)
For once I was in the right place at the right time to actually photograph a sunset on my local patch, as opposed to seeing it from my car or bedroom window! I had not long dropped off my last learner of the day when I could see the sunset starting to happen and I was fortunately placed a short distance from the main car park at Attenborough Nature Reserve. It took a concerted effort positioning the boulders exactly where I wanted them, but beyond that I simply used a 0.9 hard grad to hold in the sky detail.

At Koekohe Beach there is a group of circular shaped stones called Moeraki Boulders. Some of the stones protrude into the water. The erosion of the special rock with the water often reveals new stone structures.
I took a walk from home yesterday, with the destination of the Bluebell Shelter (hidden in the trees here). It was late in the day, and the sun was just above flatirons, providing a scene with a very bright sky and some dark areas in the trees.
I took 5 bracketed photos and used PhotoMatix Pro 6 to put together an HDR, then finished processing in Photoshop.
I kept telling myself "Photographers are told not to shoot into the sun."

The most striking aspect of the boulders is their unusually large size and spherical shape, with a distinct bimodal size distribution. Approximately one-third of the boulders range in size from about 0.5 to 1.0 metre in diameter, the other two-thirds from 1.5 to 2.2 metres. Most are spherical or almost spherical, but a small proportion are slightly elongated parallel to the bedding plane of the mudstone that once enclosed them.
Neither the spherical to subspherical shape or large size of the Moeraki Boulders is unique to them. Virtually identical spherical boulders, called Koutu Boulders, are found on the beaches, in the cliffs, and beneath the surface inland of the shore of Hokianga Harbour, North Island, New Zealand, between Koutu and Kauwhare points. Like the Moeraki Boulders, the Koutu Boulders are large, reaching 3 metres in diameter, and almost spherical. Similar boulder-size concretions, known as Katiki Boulders, are also found on the north-facing shore of Shag Point some 19 kilometres south of where the Moeraki Boulders are found. These concretions occur as both spherical cannonball concretions and flat, disk-shaped or oval concretions. Unlike the Moeraki boulders, some of these concretions contain the bones of mosasaurs and plesiosaurs.”
